Funnels Vs Dragoons

Which is better really the Funnel system from the UC or the Dragoons from the CE?

Personnelly I felt the funnel system seems to be the better one. But that's cause I find it alot cooler than the Dragoon system.

This thread is a BAD idea... I predict flames and insults by the second page, and no constructive conversations at any stage.

lol is there are need to ask?

Bits are the best, not funnels or DRAGOONs.

Theres a difference between funnels and bits. Bits either have more stamina or they have on board power sources, they are also more advanced and versatile.

Funnels are basically just flying guns, they are just deployed for shooting and have to return to the ms quickly for recharging.

Quin Mantha, Quebeley and Sazabi are examples of funnel users.

Bits have more varied capabilites.

The famous Fin Funnel is actually a bit despite its name. Each Fin Funnel carries a compact fusion reactor, has more fire power than most funnels and is also a mobile set of I-field generators.

Psycho Gundam MKII's Reflector bits can be used as both an offence and defence system. Beams from Psycho Gundam MKII's spread beam cannons can be precisely reflected to targets by the Reflector bits. At the same time it can reflect incoming beams from the enemy. The bits are very efficient since they have no onboard weapons that needs recharging, they can stay operational for long periods of time compared to funnels.

Well DRAGOONS can't be used on EARTH, bits can...Atleast the ones in Gundam X could, can't remember if the funnels were ever used on EARTH though in UC...Which ever one can be used on Earth is better because you have no limitations in it's usage (Like LEGEND does)...You don't have to always fight in space to use one of your more potent attacks...

Trying to remember if Ple vs. Ple2 in ZZ used bits or funnels in that fight that took place on Earth...., hmmm....

C.A. 2006-06-14 06:50

lol that fight in ZZ was the only exception in the Gundam Multiverse to have funnels in the atmosphere.

And yea GX has the most powerful bits ever, the G-bits are insanely agile, can defend themselves, be ranged or melee attackers and most importantly each carries a Satelite Cannon.

wingdarkness 2006-06-14 06:56

Well I wasn't actually talking about the G-bit Mobile Suits, I was talking about Carris Nautilus' Newtype controlled bits on his BERTIGO...He clearly used them on Earth when he attacked Garaod in the snowstorm...This fight was actually a key to his development in the series...

Anyways I guess I was right in Ple vs. Ple they did use funnles on Earth...Are you sure that's the only exception because that example can make or break someones argument...

C.A. 2006-06-14 07:09

Yea I know you were talking about the Vertigo lol, I'm just adding in G-bits.

As far as I know, that was the only fight with funnels in the atmosphere. But, technically bits aren't supposed to work in the atmosphere as well.

Those parallel universe gundams have mostly messed it up and have bits in the atmosphere.

G Gundam:
Roses Bits
Balloon Bits

Gundam X:
Vertigo Bits

G-bits and Turn X don't really fit conventional bits though.

But in SRW funnels and bits can be used everywhere even underwater lol. They mostly have Air B Land B Sea B Space A in all SRWs before PS2 and Gameboy Advance. PS2 and Gameboy Advance's funnels and bits have changed to A A B A.

shaolo 2006-06-14 07:28

Yes, Pie in Quebeley and Pie2 in Psycho Gundam MKII both use bits in Earth atmosphere with no problem of controling it.

Is the INCOM system the forefather of the funnels as they had to attached to the MS, fly by wire.

Obi-Wan 2006-06-14 08:32

I am going to say DRAGOONs on this one. Just a hunch.

Syn13 2006-06-14 08:34

Incom system reminds me of a earlier version of the Dragoon system being more fitted for Normal Pilots while Funnels are basically strictly for Newtypes.

I don't really consider Incoms to be "newtype" weaponry (they can only be used MOST efficiently with Newtypes, yes) but with the Quasi-Psycommu (or half control system with the Neue Ziel) system and most normal pilots being able to use them...you get what I mean.

SNT1 2006-06-14 15:51

Funnels cater to more advanced pilots; and with psycoframe and stuff it only gets better.

super DRAGOONs are an example of this---it doesnt even need an extremely high spatial awareness to be effective. Because funnels in UC are piloted by skilled newtypes makes it alot better too.

Yep..since they would know how to use them more conservatively. Know how long to keep them deployed, when to use them and/or call them back.

I'd laugh so hard if they showed some newb-type (XD) pilot using the funnels and laugh like he's all invincible and then the funnels die out in space from no more power and then he gets blown to hell by the grunts he was blowing away XD

JanthraX^ 2006-06-14 16:23

wouldnt the fact that DRAGOONS can be used by normal pilots, due to their autonomous nature, make them a better weapon as they can be depolyed on all new suits. Improving a Suits firepower and increase its number of attack angles. So instead of having a few mobile suits which only skilled pilots can use and may die in battle using DRAGOONS, the whole force is kitted out with them.

Also i read on a wiki that in one of the manga's the Funnels/Bits could be countered with an Anti Funnel System that blocked psycommu waves, and rendered them useless. I dont think there are any counters for DRAGOONs.

However Bits do have range and duration on their side, as they carry their own power source.

I would prefer to have a mobile suit based on a missile platform system, however minovsky particales and N-Jammer tech made them redundant. I guess it made Gundam more 'exciting' or MS's would just pick each other off from long distance with missiles <which i would prefer =D.

The first DRAGOON systems could only be used by certain pilots with spatial awareness. (And, in terms of the Dreadnought Gundam, were wire-guided)

It wasn't until DRAGOON systems were improved with newer models in CE 73 that normal pilots could use them (Legend, Strike Freedom, Chaos, etc).

still thats the whole point, develop specialist high quality equiment into equiment that can be used through out the whole force. Military evolution, a doctrine used by most modern forces.
(would like to talk more on this but i go for now =D )

Well since isn't any device to counters Dragoon now, there is one way to counter it is to jam the Quantum Communication from the MS to the Dragoon.

was it even cleared up that Strike freedom dragoons can be used by just anyone? offcially like Legends or are you just speculating that they the same as legends and chaos? cause i dont remember ever officially stated that S=freedom dragoons were the same as legends. but i do remember people saying that S=freedom dragoons were older version of chaos. correct me if i'm wrong

Well from all the discussion in the little thread about whether or not Kira was a Newtype, it seems he is not and thus, could not normally control a DRAGOON system.
