In need or recommndation (flatpanel monitor)

So which is better?

Acer Black Widescreen LCD Monitor 20"

Hanns·G HW-191DPB Black 19" 5ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor

Never mind about the price: which one has the better specs and will give me the best picture quality?

Tiberium Wolf 2007-07-31 11:21

The specs are almost the same. I would go the bigger the better. SO I would go for Acer Black Widescreen LCD Monitor 20".

Pity that I can't find any 20" LCD in the local stores for $180.

shiro83 2007-07-31 11:32

For the Acer, it is just a ten more dollars down for an extra inch screen size.
I will go with the Acer screen.

grey_moon 2007-07-31 12:13

Personally I go for ViewSonic every time <- fanboy attack sorry!!!

*Edit*

And now for a sensible reply

The Acer has a better contrast ratio and more screen size. Everything else is comparable.... At my old work place we got in a bunch of Acer LCDs and they are still going strong, but I can't say for this model. Best google for model names and people complaining.

For the difference in price I would go Acer.

Those are similar monitors. I'll chose Acer if I were you because is 20"

Me too... lol... anyway...

Resolution :
ACER : WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050)
Hanns·G : WXGA+ (1440 x 900)
» ACER Wins...

Contrast Ratio :
ACER : 800:1
Hanns·G : 700:1
» ACER Wins...

But Hanns·G has it own speakers...

Anyway, i'd choose ACER, for only additional 10$ you got bigger screen with higher resolution and contrast ratio...

bobber205 2007-07-31 23:46

I have that exact monitor. In fact I am using it right now.

I've had no problems with it and no dead pixels. In fact I am buying another for my mom tomorrow. :D

grey_moon 2007-08-01 02:48

No built in speakers can be a blessing. I normally end up not using mine, so I have these magnetic devices taking up real estate and prbly sucking up power for no reason :(

problemedchild 2007-08-01 03:42

I dislike built in speakers for several reasons.

They add extra cost to the monitor
They suck, unless you listen to no music at all, they're very useless.

toru310 2007-08-02 05:27

If I were to buy that monitor are there chances that It can arrive here damaged? Do they use fedex to transport those or are there other companies? because I'm currently at asia so its kind of far.

tritoch 2007-08-02 07:52

Go for the biggest one you can get. Its all the same for lcd monitors anyways. Just read the user comments for common issues like color bleeding and lack of brightness.

fanboy rant:

I'd never replace my mitsubishi diamond pro crt. This thing is made of pure win. And can reach insane insane resolutions (I can't click the max res since my laptop is doesn't support anything above 1920x1200 >,>)

The shipping company will take utmost care for your package (since you paid for it :)). Usually there are return policies if there are defects in the product.

For Newegg, yes, they use FedEx.

tritoch 2007-08-02 08:01

FedEx = expensive

For within the U.S., you can use UPS standard. I think Newegg ships it using its regular box so those shipping people can actually tell that its fragile.

problemedchild 2007-08-02 16:37

If you can find it a local retail store, buy it there. Newegg's monitor/TV return policy is pretty bad.

toru310 2007-08-02 21:20

When you say "BAD" what do you mean?

reflection 2007-08-02 21:55

Why not go for the BenQ FP202W @ $190 instead? It's listed as an 8-bit panel, has better contrast ratio, and the same response time. Also the customer reviews are really good for it. It doesn't seem to come with a DVI cable, though. If you're into very good manueverbility for your LCD, the Samsung 204BW has a great stand, but is a 6-bit panel.

Since prices between 19" and 20" right now are so close, always choose the 20" because it has both greater screen real estate and dpi count. :)

Where in Asia are you in? Chances are it might be cheaper buying it locally if you are buying asian brands like Samsung.. etc etc.

Return for refund within: non-refundable

There must be a minimum of 8 dead pixels to declare an LCD display defective and eligible for return.
As you can see, it's pretty much "as is." You buy it, you got it.

Newegg is good on everything else, but not displays.

tritoch 2007-08-03 02:55

touch the screen a little and create trauma on the screen. it might give you a little dead pixels. ;D

toru310 2007-08-03 08:06

Can someone point out the address for newegg? do they have a shop or something because I'll be telling my aunt to buy ram heatsinks..hehe

What if you live in states who will deliver the products? UPS? or fedex?
