To keep the discussion enjoyable for all Toradora! fans, please follow the guidelines below and stay on-topic!
Note: Please don't use this for the specifics (i.e. episode, chapter, game, etc. discussion) there are other threads for that stuff.
Thread Guidelines
  • No campaigning!
No "hate" or "xyz must die" posts. Discuss why you do or don't like characters without whinging and whining or blatantly campaigning for your favourite.

  • Be polite to your fellow forum members.
Do not insult or harass other members for their likes and dislikes. Do not take it so seriously that you end up in an argument with another forum member because they express a fondness for a character you loathe. Discussion and good spirited banter are always welcome, but harassing people will not be tolerated.

  • Discuss, don't chat.
Please remember that AnimeSuki is a discussion forum, not a chat room, there is a difference. If you wish to chat, then please make use of our IRC channel.

  • Have fun, but post intelligently.
It's great to have fun, but please try your best to add substance to what you post and make your thoughts interesting for the generation of fans that will follow after you’re long gone and on to watching some other series.

  • Use Spoiler tags!
Spoilers are allowed, but they must be enclosed in spoiler tags clearly marked with a proper title. Failure to do this can result in a BAN.

    • Adding a Spoiler tag:
Just highlight your spoiler and click the button found on the "Quick Reply" and "Reply to Thread" forms. Make sure that you include a title for the spoiler!

    • Please use the Report button if you see any spoilers:
Click the button found to the left of the post, just under the poster's avatar. Using the Report button is anonymous and helps the Moderators to locate and deal with problems quickly.

    • Posting prohibited spoilers may result in a ban.
Note: Reporting a post does not mean the poster will be banned instantly. The Moderators will use bans if warnings are repeatedly ignored.

Spoiler for "Anime-only viewers, don't click.":

xxfate13 2009-01-19 09:25

haha. yeah.
but at least we get to know her better..
i really like her strong character.. she reminds of the saying, "the difference between a smart man and a wise man is that a smart man knows what to say and a wise man knows whether to say it or not". she is the wise man. if she was given more air-time i guess i could have liked her more than ami. for me she is great for she knows what she is doing and where she is heading. i personally like that in women. ^^

although sometimes, her actions are a bit, hmm.. careless? and bossy? i can't think of a better term.. with her manners and words. but i think she's not a tsundere.

and also. why do you think she has the nickname "big brother"?
it makes me remember about the reality game show with that title. :heh:

BetoJR 2009-01-19 09:29

Oh, God, I didn't mean to click the spoiler, but it was stronger than me. Now, I'm kinda depressed... :(

Vexx 2009-01-19 13:08

... well... #1 ... I don't think typhonsentra has a copy of the script. If he has a reference, linkage would be good.
#2 Sumire *is* graduating this year so yeah, she's moving on in some fashion.

But yes, love the character - I'm hoping she will get the same sort of illumination and revelation as the other characters even if not as deeply. Not particularly counting on it though...

typhonsentra 2009-01-19 13:20

I added an extra warning, sorry to those of you who couldn't resist the temptation and afterwords regretted it, I know the feeling....

Vexx 2009-01-19 15:59

Missed my point. Knowledge of the novel does not predict how or when the anime will adapt it (and in how many episodes).

Do you have an episode title or something that implies what you're speculating?

My post was directed at Beto. But as for your question.

Spoiler for Again, anime-only fans shouldn't click.:

There is a Chinese saying for her ..."water runs very deep".

Vexx 2009-01-19 17:52

Ah.. didn't know that they'd released the episode titles for the second season yet.... I often find it very odd when they do that since it frequently telegraphs the plot.

Darknemo2000 2009-01-19 19:27

Kitamura being such a looser actually did something good - we can have Kanou Sumire thread.

stormy001_M1A2 2009-01-20 00:48

I am not too sure if Kitamura is a loser. He has his own quirks but he is not a loser.

Vexx 2009-01-20 01:39

well... he's having what we used to call a "Peter Pan" moment in the States ... he's not ready to grow up. Its actually a psychological condition many young teens go through (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puer_Aeternus).

But this thread should focus on Sumire.... episode 15 had her being particularly uninformative and uncooperative with the teachers. Don't know if that's been her modus operandi in general with them or if that's something unique to this situation. The teachers seemed rather helpless.

stormy001_M1A2 2009-01-20 03:29

She is a strong minded girl with her own pride. She is an equal to Tiger in terms of intensity and deviousness that will rival Ami. Brains that is superior than Kitamura.

In ToraDora! universe, she is the Alpha Queen.

Only she did not have detachment like Ryuji or humor like Minorin.

wistfulloner 2009-01-20 05:13

Not only strong minded, but pretty darn heartless too. Gives you the impression she'll trample you to the ground if you stand between her and her goal.

Spoiler for Novel reference:

I still don't quite understand why she was so cold to Kitamura; I thought she liked him too. Perhaps she had her own pride to protect?

stormy001_M1A2 2009-01-20 05:25

Psssssst! Spoilers!

Tiran86 2009-01-20 16:01

Sumire should've been one of the main characters, or at least played a bigger role than she does.

Vexx 2009-01-20 17:20

Aye... I'm half suspicious that the main cast was kept to five for lucky-number reasons rather than something logical (five is lucky and even numbers are unlucky) .... Sumire really seems half-in/half-out and would have made a fascinating main character.

Kaisos Erranon 2009-01-20 17:53

Also perhaps because larger casts are more difficult to develop properly.

I mean, look at the cast already. Kitamura tends to get shafted in terms of development.
