100% set up episode. Kind of weird what they (the writers) are doing with Maka, but I guess its too late in the show to leave Medusa alone. Also, they get to split up all the characters as much as possible, yay.

What I find more frustrating is the abundance of Maka development in the WRONG direction >.>

That's why I didn't like anime original story. Most of the character will be messed up like this.

al though i agree with what your saying about the chara development and the maka stuff Reincarnated, but watching the anime and see if they improve to fix that detail works too, besides, what they can't cover in the right ep the cover it in another ep, like the emo-ish maka side we just saw

Spoiler for 42:

It could either be an unimportant detail due to the madness being sucked out of the Kishen or it could be connected to the odd glow in his eyes.

It was a bit empty I think... overal I enjoyed it less than ep41 but this one was the beggining of the war! so I was pretty excited.. too bad the semi-cliffhanger in the end.

rated 9/10 by mistake, I meant 8/10

Nalio 2009-02-01 01:24

6/10. Even though it kicks things off and it looks from 43 on things are going to be exciting, Maka annoyed me too much in this episode. Not quite sure why, maybe it was just her unreadiness to fight ticked me off a bit.

Okay, having seen subs...

I can understand why Maka is so confused. I don't especially like it, but it makes sense for her to be in two minds between her friends, and the organisation she's put so much faith in up until this point. It's nice to see her determination again, even though I'm not sure it's in quite the right direction. I found it very curious that, after so long dismissing him as worthless, she referred back to her dad upon her final decision. It says something about Spirit too, considering how he's reacted to Stein over the course of the series; he stands by his friends. (even when Franken sees him as little more than a guard-dog).

Yumi has a point about logic, but she's arguing with the totally wrong people. There's no point in telling those two to think logically. Shinigami has his own bizarre way of doing things, and Spirit seems to go along for the ride regardless. I found the anti-madness medication a nice touch, as it fits with Shinigami's whole rationale when it comes to the Kishin; it gives people a bit of consolation to deal with potential (or in this case, imminent) dangers.

I dislike the emphasis that's being put on Maka's demonslayer wavelength. If Sid was being honest - "the kind of man he was" - Shibusen's putting all their eggs in one basket for the Baba Yaga mission. It'd make more sense to me had we seen before hand how important Shinigami felt the wavelength was, but we haven't. Maka's had all this pressure put on her with no substantial explaination in the context of the plot. It's creating a obstacle for the character that doesn't, I think, quite work in the storyline. I would say that Sid's 'honesty' might have been a misguided attempt to get Maka to focus on the mission at hand, were it not for Shinigami's gushing claim some episodes ago that Maka could defeat Kishin Asura with her demonslayer-ness.

I think Shinigami's got more in mind than Sid and Yumi realise, let alone the students. He has Joe and Kid on their own missions, plus one can only hope the following episodes will clear up the backstory to this whole affair; knowing he fought witches with Asura 800 years ago is one thing, but I for one would like to know more about why that happened.
