Synopsis in the following is stolen from here:
When timid eleventh-grader and math genius Kenji Koiso (Ryunosuke Kamiki) is asked by older student and secret crush Natsuki (Nanami Sakuraba) to come with her to her family's Nagano home for a summer job, he agrees without hesitation. Natsuki's family, the Jinnouchi clan, dates back to the Muromachi era (1336 to 1573), and they've all come together to celebrate the 90th birthday of the spunky matriarch of the family, Sakae. That's when Kenji discovers his "summer job" is to pretend to be Natsuki's fiance and dance with her at the birthday celebration. As Kenji attempts to keep up with Natsuki's act around her family, he receives a strange math problem on his cell phone which, being a math genius, he can't resist solving. As it turns out, the solution to the mysterious equation causes a bizarre parallel world to collide with Earth, and it's up to Kenji and his new fake family to put reality back in order.

Just watched the trailer. I must say it is very promising!!! Very funny, wacky and I think the story is very interesting. The art/design of the characters is very "Studio Gibli", since the art director is Youji Takeshige who has worked on many Studio Gibli's anime movie classics like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke etc.. Just awesome!

Kitsu 2009-06-16 15:40

Reminds me of the digimon movies...badly. Just looking at that Art style and then I watched further. Lol

What is this actually about

Guardian Enzo 2009-06-16 16:27

This looks really good - inventive, funny, interesting cast. Too bad it'll be 2010 before we see it subbed.

Fevvers 2009-06-16 19:11

That was charming! The ghibli feel is palpable, including some of the character designs, even if it is done by Sadamoto. From what I've heard so far, I'm loving the voice acting. Then again, Hosoda has never really been a disappointment in that department, just look at TokiKake.

I knew I was forgetting something when I started the Darker Than Black thread. I've been meaning to create a thread for this title for sometime now. Thanks for starting the thread Serenade. :) I've added a synopsis in the opening post.

I think this movie will be one of the highlight of this year. The story reads so fun. The trailer simply confirms it. I'm so looking forward to this.

Duckii 2009-06-16 19:55

The plot sound awesome, it looks funny too.

Kirarakim 2009-06-16 21:27

I am really looking forward to this movie since I loved Tokikae. Too bad for those of us not in Japan it will be awhile before we get to actually see this.

Haohmaru 2009-06-16 21:30

Wow that synopsis made me even more interested in this movie (if that was even possible). This movie is going to be great!

Raiga 2009-06-16 22:39

That synopsis sounds epic. I'll definitely be keeping my ear out on this one. Trailer looked quite fun.

Agreed. But I loved that Digimon movie, it was so well directed, and paced. Their imaginative vision of the "internet" was pretty unique too.

It seems like Summer Wars follows a similar storyline, the world of Oz crashes with our real world. Then the family needs to save the world together, and it seems to involve computers.

So far I love EVERYTHING from this guy. They all have a great balance of action humor and drama. Freaking awesome stuff.

TadloS 2009-06-17 05:38

This movie is bond to be awesome. ;)

blewin 2009-06-19 05:45

This looks pretty interesting!! I love bizarre stuff.

Starry Dust 2009-06-21 21:13

For some reason I thought of Happy Tree Friends lol

But I definitely wanna see this. I know that style anywhere and Kenji looks like the male version of Makoto from Toki Kake :'D

orion 2009-06-21 22:03

I having a hard time rationalizing why a 17 yo female has to lie about not having a fiance nowadays. Other than that, it might be a good film.

Since we are talking about solution of a math equation that may give rise to parallel world which is in collision course with our own world, I'll let it slide about minute detail such as a 17 yr old needs to lie about her fiancee. :heh:

Looks like the movie is slated for sometime in August. Can't wait!

DRAGUN H.E.X. 2009-06-22 01:30

ohhh, just watching that trailer makes me wanna wish that he could direct a new Digimon TV series but using the same style that he used in the movies. :heh:

Point taken but my feminist side got ruffled. It's 2009. Couldn't they come up with another reason to get the guy down there? :heh:
