Animation Bussiness's potential customers?
For school I have to start an animation company. Now I need to know what the potential amount of customers is (I have to include a link where I got it from).
Anybody here know? |
Hmm, if you appeal to kids with cutesy series you could get your fair share of customers, but depends on your product really. That's my take anyways.

It'd be best to look at studios like Ghibli, Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney etc to get their sort of box office figures, for an assignment of this nature. Wiki+Google+IMDB should provide all of the information you need.

I'd mainly talk about advertising, if your starting a company it usually takes a while before you can actually do movies (e.g build up cash and a reputation) or tv shows.
You could start looking at tv networks, try and find out what programs they asked for in their next commissioning budget then pitch an animation that fits it with a budget. |
You may find Jetro's anime market report(Japan) and Kevin Geiger's write up on global animation industry a bit helpful.
|
There's also the periodic DVD sales thread in the General Anime section.... some nice person lists the Japanese market sales for each series which might give you some clue when ratioed against the general consumer market.
|
Some of the more lucrative markets, at least according to experience, is in website design -- there's still a huge customer base demanding for Flash-based animation.
However, if you're going the traditional route, expect an uphill battle unless you could allow your would-be company to be used for outsourcing for major animation studios. |
Thansk everyone for your input

Come up with 9 pages without the thread. |

I'd suggest your narrowing it down first cause you have different kind of animation: 2D and 3D -> 2D: commercialism, cheap advertisements for small companies, making DVD menu's etc. 3D: from modeling houses for architects to vehicles for designers etc. as well as commercialism which goes hand in hand with 2D, game design and creation and not to mention both can be used for webdesign. I'm guessing your going for the anime studio part, I'm just giving advice but that market is huge and so you'll have loads of things to keep recon with when it comes to potential customers, narrow down your animation company and you'll find that you'll have a certain group for your business which makes your project a whole lot easier |
