Prepare to be blasted away by Cross Game recommendations.

Shiroth 2010-05-16 17:24

Yeah i'll also recommend Cross Game, though there's a bigger reason then it just being a sports anime.

There's also Ookiku Furikabutte. :)

Cynor 2010-05-16 17:58

May stretch it a little... but look at Suzuka. Sports plays a good part in it, although it's more of a romance/drama.

MeoTwister5 2010-05-16 23:10

Has Cross Game been mentioned?

Oops.

fertygo 2010-05-16 23:22

Ookiku Furikabutte is the best genuine sport animu I can recommend

Azuma Denton 2010-05-16 23:34

I recommend Major, beside Cross Game and Ookiku Furikabutte...

barcode120x 2010-05-16 23:48

I recommend Overdrive. 26 episodes should last you a bit. I like it because it's a different sport than baseball >_>.

king12354 2010-05-17 00:07

Shion no Ou (shougi)

Sackett 2010-05-17 07:10

Ookiku Furikabutte aka Big Windup

Adachi's works: Cross Game, Touch, H2. H2 is probably the most sports focused.

CeDeR 2010-05-17 09:29

Major?? maybe.

Hikaru no Go (Go)

Cross Game

Cross Game

and...

Well, I guess the currently ongoing Giant Killer is not bad. You might also want to give a shot to Overdrive as someone mentioned earlier. A little different from the rest, One outs is the bastard child of Death Note/Akagi with a sports series, so you might like that.

SeijiSensei 2010-05-17 18:35

Whatever became of Basquash!? I notice that the second half of the episodes are largely unsubbed, and the trackers have very few seeds. This seemed likely to be a hit given its mixture of mecha and basketball, not to mention a huge dose of money from Nike, yet it's fallen off the radar screen.

I'd endorse both Hikaru and Shion if you don't mind the fact that they concern board games and not athletics. Shion has a murder mystery involved along with the Shougi.

Proto 2010-05-17 19:13

Indeed, Hikaru no Go is an excellent series. If it wasn't for the fact he already watched it I would have recommended it 3 times myself.

Pooba 2010-05-17 22:31

i know you said long running but what about One Outs?
