Mayoi elle Otoko no Ko is mentioned here as an "otoko no ko" anime, an anime where a boy disguises/acts like a female.

The magazine that the anime was announced in is WAaI! which is a male oriented magazine that features boys disguising as females and contains: boys disguising as females manga, projects, and etc...

Hmm.. while some will not understand how this anime will mostly appeal to the hetrosexual male otaku, and why "moe" is one of the tags of this thread, but to expalin this, it is better to read the following:

What is "otoko no ko" (男の娘)? An article about this can be read here.

If only they made a cherry girls anime.

Bonta Kun 2010-07-14 15:55

ehhhh...ok so it's about traps that aren't really traps but about boys that are just too feminine for their own good!?:eyespin:

Kinda like Hideyoshi then.

I guess I'll keep an eye on this just to see what it's about.

Shiroth 2010-07-14 16:08

This is my kind of show. Hopefully it'll deliver with what i wanna see.

Sai Feng 2010-07-14 17:13

Yes!!!!!!!! Let this become big and hopefully they animate some of the stories in WAaI! for future projects. *makes wish*

Keiichiro Kawaguchi strikes again and raises my interest in something from "mild" to "something between mild, but not exactly extreme fanaticism".

Here's something from the official site:

A beautiful big school on a cape by the sea: elementary, middle school, high school -- even a kindergarten. A crest featuring stars and a unicorn, and the name: Galaxy Private Academy (Shiritsu Ginga Gakuen). A liberal arts school producing performers for stage, screen, net and television, and a student body of 600 otoko joshi (male females). It's spring, and a lone boy transfers in to the middle school, with determination in his heart. The school encourages students to understand the opposite sex, so....

Directed by Kawaguchi Keiichirou (Hayate, Zettai Karen Children, Kowarekake no Orgol, Yutori-chan, Ore no Imouto Konna ni kawaii wake ga Nai).

Original character design: POP (Moetan, Kowarekake no Orgol). Character design: Sadakata Kikuko (Shikabane Hime).

Lead writer: Amagawa Nobuhiko (scripts for Taishou Yakyuu Musume, Railgun)

Cast:
Hanazawa Kana, Iguchi Yuka, Fujimura Ayumi, Fujita Saki, Ise Mariya, Makiguchi Mayuki, Sakakibara Yui.

MoonPhase has no projected date, and just says it is in the planning stages.

ANN.

Like Midonin, Kawaguchi is a major draw for me, but the cast, the concept, and POP's character design are also pluses.

It appears that shota traps really are becoming the new moe.

FireChick 2010-08-31 12:53

Eh...I don't think I'll be watching this. It looks like it could be potentially ecchi. >_<:heh:

Yes, amazing isn't it? There must be a few research papers lurking here. Natural polymorphous perversity? Liberating people's natural bisexuality? Otaku who think they will never get a wife or girlfriend just giving up? An attempt to cater to both genders? Or perhaps an indication that moe/loli attraction is partly to a female part of the male's own psyche (what Jung called the "anima").

One of the best of these "otoko joshi" stories that I've read is Prunus Girl, where a cute high-school boy always dresses as a girl and tries to get to be the protagonist's "girl"-friend. He always claims to be a guy, but many chapters are spent with people not really knowing for sure. The girl-guy is not mentally weak at all, but more or less in control of the situation.

I want to think the concept of "otoko no ko" is very similar to the Treachery of Images by René Magritte, where the viewer is shown a somewhat contradicting image: a picture of a "realistic" pipe and a text that says "this is not a pipe". This contradiction/paradox between idea and visual plays with the mind of the viewer, who is unable to accept this information as true. Replace the artwork with the picture of a girl and the idea that "she is not a girl", and you will probably get a similar, if not more interesting response/reaction. it doesn't have much to do with the fact that a male character may be crossdressing as female, but with the idea that this male appears to be a female no matter how you look at him. I imagine this concept can work depending on whether it can convince the audience that what is shown to them is a girl, so it can more effectively question the mind of the viewer.

For example, the following is a page from Reversible! manga, which is published in WAaI! Magazine.

Your post reminds me of one of my favorite examples of this illusionary effect:

Find the trap!

I'd like to know more too. It was announced in 2010:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...nime-to-launch

http://www.animenfo.com/animetitle,4...elle_otok.html

But it seems to have dropped off the Radar for some reason.

Found this preview:

at:

But this is also from 2010. Anyone know what happened to this series?

Nachtwandler 2013-07-03 02:16

Common thing. This OVA were so unpopular that we didn't get even RAWs.

We could say the same for Chronos Gear. With these two, I planned to watch it but when I realized they dropped the ball by not even being released, I was dissapointed very much.

Nachtwandler 2013-07-03 05:36

And I'm still waiting for KiraKira 5th anniversary OVA cause I can't get it (((

NoemiChan 2013-07-03 05:46

Ok.... let see.... they're actually boy's dressing as girls..... so we expect like yaoi here?

True? Really?

Coz.. I wanna drop this if it's REALLY TRUE.....
