WBoon's Experimental Art 101

I haven't made signatures for a long while, and when I did, I was still doing it casually as a novice.

Regardless, I'm going to pick up a few signature tutorials and try in on K-On! images. These are my latest work that I made in the past few days using Photoshop CS5 Extended (just bought it yesterday). They are nothing impressive, just either something I needed to fill out the empty space that's my signature or an experiment carried out following a Photoshop tutorial.

Nonetheless, hope you'd enjoy them. :)

Spoiler for Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Signature - Mion:
More to come soon... I still work on signatures casually (gotta catch up with those anime, after all), so expect a creation every two days or so. ^_^

Adding a border to your signature just gives it a better look then the previous one, love your signature works so far. Hope you make more :)

So you only make signatures of K-On?

lol Well, recently, yes, since it's become one of my favorite anime (and probably the only one that gives me inspiration - at the moment). x3

But who knows. I might consider making sigs of other anime in the future. It all depends on whether the episodes I watch give me a personal endearing feeling, really. :D

I'm glad you like my work. ;)

Here is my latest one with the incorporation of c4D images and splatter brushes:

Another one (warning - kinda squirmish):I love how f-ed up the show is. Mion is a total nuts.

Edit:Recolored her eyes to red. Somehow, it turned back to green again. And also, I resized it to AS-safe. Enjoy. ^^

They are nice sigs for sure, at the same time however, they are also sigs above the allowed limits here (including the one you are using atm). If you gave those away as freebies in the K-on section, you should mention that they are not animesuki safe.

Actually,

My signature is 500x157, even, so it's fine. ^^ But you're right about it not being AS safe - if text is also incorporated into their sigs. I'd resize sigs by request if anyone is ever interested in using my sigs, but I prefer to size them at the biggest limit AnimeSuki allows. ^^

ganbaru 2010-08-23 05:40

The sigs might be under the limitation, but the sig's file are over the limit of 48,8KB .

Huh... guess I forgot about that. -_-" (Actually, it's 50kb, but w/e :p). Thanks for the reminder. ^^

Edit:
Sigh, forget what I said about the 50kb thing. <_<" What? I rush into things! :p

WBoon 2010-08-23 11:49

A new one I just made. Sigh. The 48.8kb limit really deteriorates the signature. Well, kind of. Especially disappointing since this looks like my best work so far.

Edit:
Looks like the size was smaller than I expected. Enough for me to increase the quality. :\

Edit2:
Mio's hand was missing! Did some work to make it more clear now.

I had thought that when Azusa came along, she's gonna replace Mio like everyone claimed. Fortunately, seems like Mio only gets to acts as her senior even more, which is quite intriguing, both's relationship.

Dist 2010-08-23 12:17

You don't really need to make them that small. The Ritsu sig for example, I think it was better with bigger size in pixels. I tried it quickly, and used the Save for Web on PS and got it to ~48000 bytes and can't see really any difference in the quality ..

Anyway, not bad sigs in overall but they're all missing a border... Simple 1px black border would do the job. The K-On has border but it's so thick it feels like it's part of the actual image ..

Huh. You're right! lol I might try that in the future. Thanks for the tip. ^^

That's the idea. ^^

Yeah, probably, but I felt they'd look, idk, unnatural and ruin the signature with a border-line around them. Maybe it's just me. :]

Dist 2010-08-23 13:03

Well you could try to work with different kind of borders.. For example, the one ganbaru has on his current sig looks pretty neat and fits the signature well.

Anyway for saving signatures and avatars, always use the Save for Web & Devices feature and you won't have trouble with filesizes. Just take JPEG and adjust the quality accordingly until the size is about right.

WBoon 2010-08-23 20:16

And yet, another signature made. This time, one with a more simple design rather than using all those fancy schmancy c4Ds, liquify, and stocks.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...-On-Mio-12.jpg

I know, she don't look like Mio to me, either. Ah well. At least the border looks good. And I got to keep the file size under check while having the maximum size limit, too, thanks to Dist's suggestion. ^^

Oh, and you wouldn't believe how long this took me for such a simple design. The rendering of Mio was Hell.

Hehe, thanks! *takes cookies* :3

Edit:
An avatar to go along with my latest sig -

WBoon 2010-08-24 21:11

A Tsumugi signature? No way.
http://i212.photobucket.com/albums/c...nature-116.jpg

Again, the rendering is probably the longest process in the making of this sig. It's amazing how few renderings of Tsumugi there are out there. Initially wanted to make it look darker and more soft, but when I 'accidentally' added the lighting to it, I just had to keep it. :)

Edit:
Curse the degradation in quality.

Edit 2:
Phew. There were some minor (but very distinct) flaws in that sig. Thank God I'm able to fix them, as the degradation in quality (to make it AS-safe) highlighted those flaws.

Edit 3:
Was able to raise the quality by quite an amount. It's just a matter of trial and error but, it's very tedious. -_-"

Edit 4:
Alterations, alterations. I should learn to check my work more often.

Hooves 2010-08-25 00:24

WBoon your signatures and avatars of K-On are simply amazing :D, the ones I like the most are your current ones. They are just simply gorgeous. All your works so far add up to a 9.4/10 in my books ;)

WBoon 2010-08-25 05:58

lol Thanks, Hooves. Glad someone finds that last one to be delightful, as I worked quite for the longest time on it. Hehe. Love your sig as well. Dig the curves. ^^

WBoon 2010-08-25 10:02

Could anyone say, "disturbing?" :) Here's a side of Mio few have seen before.

A more light-hearted signature to make up for my last morbid one:
