That mech is from the manga. Or rather the pilot/prototype of the manga. The mech is simply known as "Machina" in the anime I guess they put it in as a cameo.

I understand Yamashita is referred to as -kun, but I just assumed since h/she was such a tomboy, that's why they did so.

The SRW anime had a really low low low low low budget. Hence the rubbish animation and CG.

As for KnL: I'd think Gonzo are now used to using CGI in everything plus the mechs look quite detailed.
