It doesn't work for me because the EP7 patch says it needs the EP7 disc to run, and I guess it won't recognize my EP8 disc...

I am pretty sure it is not a bug. I don't think the deaths are ever confirmed until Battler/the detective/the human player finds them himself to confirm.
