Is it pronounced like that in the dub? Probably the translation was based on a script rather than listening to the Japanese audio, someone misread シャブラニグドゥ as シャブラニグドウ shaburanigudou and it stuck.

IIRC his blindness could be cured easily by the original Rezo which only frustrated the original even more.
