Macross Plus is toted as a compilation, isn't it? It isn't advertised as a "new telling" as this movie. The two are vastly different.

Nothing sticks out as a great re-telling compared to DYRL at this point (And the stupidily obvious reused animation was groan-worthy), but then again it doesn't have great plots...

K I can see lacking, but Z had a real good story compared to most SRW's. It combines all the shows very well, and solves a lot of problems that some of them had.

I think Nanami is fine, if bland because she doesn't really stand out compared to the other girls.

And Asuka's hairstyle alone is different enough to easily tell the difference.

How do you not tell the difference? Nanami's hair is relatively flat while Asuka has those little side spikes on her hair. That, and she has more expressions than *insert dull version of emotion*

That's AU Gundam. They're more on the 1man philosophy than UC Gundam, which paints "Gundams" as slightly more powerful machines, but not overwhelmingly (Zeta Gundam and onward.)
