Having a nice amount of gain/overdrive/distortion will help too, as well as having a guitar with humbuckers. Just keep practising them regularly and you will get the hang of them ;D They just develop...

Most of the songs don't even use effects. The only ones I can think of are a wah pedal and a bit of reverb for solos.
