I've never watched the dub, but I think having her die was just so the show could be more angsty, I didn't really like/dislike her. Tucker was sorta a freak though.

Sasuke = "main" character as well; Itachi = final goal for Sasuke

Hence if Akatsuki is just "over with" assuming Itachi goes along...
