they changed some story events... sometimes even key story events... I guess they think some parts of the manga are just too... morally controversial for an anime?

well, maybe not exactly "controversial", but more like "disturbing". They just make the main characters appear "nicer" and "happier" in general. In episode 2 his wife also forgives him all too...
