It's not like Mikoto doesn't ditch her friends all the time. She did the same in volume 8, and pretty much every Mikoto scene later on in the series has her mention that she just ditched Kuroko.

Nah, the whole point of the plot is Othinus attempting to degrade and torment Touma until he commits suicide. Touma having any dignity in this volume is unlikely.
