BACKGROUND
Frederick is among the very first selected warriors who formed the Knightly Orders of Holy Belkan Empire. He is Belka’s only living Old Knight, having lived and served the empire for over 100 years. His extraordinary longevity may be linked to his past before he became a Knight.
Before he was a Knight, Frederick was a scientist working with Mon-Holmic Republic and actively involved in the kingdom’s scientific experiments involving the combination of Mid-Childan and Belkan magic system with the planet’s very own magic system. Frederick even became the experiment’s “guinea pig” when he voluntarily injected extracts of Belkan magic energy into his body; this spelt disaster for the scientist when he experienced side effects including the sudden stop of his physiological aging and fell into seven years of comatose after his body was unable to deal with the conflicting magic energies.
When he finally returned from his vegetative state, Frederick found that Mon-Holmic Republic was involved in war with the neighbouring Kingdom of Callisto to the south of the Mon-Holmic Continent. He learned that during his comatose, the president had issued an order to use results from the experiments he and his team had discovered and created an array of super-soldiers based on the database. Codenamed “Gears” these super-soldiers were sent to annex the peaceful kingdom, and became the republic’s most powerful military asset. Disgruntled by the cruel twist of fate, Frederick left the republic and joined force with Callisto separatists in fighting the republic and its Gear army. His extensive knowledge on the Gears, added by the ironic fact that he too was an archetype Gear, helped the separatists in pushing back the Republican troops back to Mon-Holm. He even led the separatists under the moniker Sol to the final battle against the last of the Gear army and ended the war that lasted for over 30 years.
After the war ended, which saw the collapse of the republic, Frederick continued fighting small-scale war against the Gears and was keen to hunt down the person responsible behind the Gears (he was known only as “That Man”). He also felt he was partially responsible for the Gears and determined to cleanse Mon-Holm off all remaining traces of the artificially created living beings; even after joining Belkan Empire’s Knightly Order, his efforts continue.
Despite being an Old Knight, Frederick chooses to lead a solitary path to avoid confrontation with other knights in the order. This may have connection to his never-ending quest to eradicate each and every Gear regardless of their threat level, which proves to contradict Belkan Knight’s ideas to protect people.
POWER
Frederick is the typical Mon-Holmic who practices the rare Limiter Seal magic system. It refers to the apparatus used to control a person’s magic circuit, therefore preventing power outbreak and keeping the said person sane (it usually takes the shape of metal headband or belt buckle; in Frederick’s case, his Limiter Seal is his headband). There are only a handful of powerful magic users in Mon-Holm, so this system is not as widespread as Mid-Childan or Belkan systems, which are popular on the planet.
To use Limiter Seal, a user simply “taps” into his or her magic circuit via the said seal and harness it for their usage. Limiter Seal is often used side-by-side with Mon-Holm’s unique Charge System, but to an untrained person these systems appear very complex and hard to master.
Frederick is also among handful people who learn the Old Belkan magic system (with the exception of the Wolkenritter), and has implemented Belkan cartridge system in his fighting style. His brash, unpredictable style, makes him a formidable opponent in close combat.
Frederick constructed his Armed Device, Sheer Heart, with the help of Belkan knights who volunteered to help Callisto Kingdom in the war against Mon-Holmic Republic. He also constructed another Armed Device, named aptly Fire-Seal Sword, but was never used. He, nevertheless, has the Device sealed inside an inter-dimensional portal that can be summoned whenever he needs to.
DEFENSIVE ABILITIES- Knight Armour: refer to the picture above.
- Nachladen: refers to Sheer Heart’s reloading procedure.
- Explosion: again, it refers to Sheer Heart’s way of saying “Load Cartridge”.
- Psych Platzen: this ability refers to Frederick’s action of “bursting” out of harm, whether he’s being hit by opponent or as an offensive move on its own. Translated as “Psych Burst”.
- Anklage: Frederick braces himself and powers up for several seconds. Some of his offensive abilities are affected by this move, but it in itself doesn’t require the usage of Belkan cartridges. Translated simply as “Charge”.
- Anklage Platzen: this ability can only be performing during Anklage, and it cannot be done while Frederick is being hit like Psych Platzen. It does little damage on its own. Translated as “Charge Burst”.
- Handlungs Anklage: this is an alternative way to Anklage. Translated as “Action Charge”, it shortens recovery time of certain moves and can be used in combo chains.
OFFENSIVE ABILITIES
Frederick’s fighting style is governed by the Charge System, and divided into Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3. Level 1 is the quickest to perform but is also the weakest. Level 2 abilities are stronger and is the most frequently used. Level 3 is very hard to perform as Frederick has to “tap in” his limiter seal first in order to power up, but is the most destructive form.
- Gun Blaze: Frederick slides across the ground and leaves fire pillar behind him. Level 1 Gun Blaze produces one pillar by default; two pillars are formed when Gun Blaze is at Level 2. On Level 3, three fire pillars are produced, and Gun Blaze itself comes out very fast.
- Blockhead Buster: Frederick swings Sheer Heart forward and releases short fire burst at target. On Level 1, only short burst is produced, and it lasts for a very short while. Level 2 Blockhead Buster reaches longer, while Level 3 Blockhead Buster reaches very far and lasts the longest.
- Storm Viper: an uppercut attack. By default, it only does two hit on level 1. Level 2 Storm Viper adds another hit and goes a bit higher. On level 3, Storm Viper gains an automatic knockdown kick.
- Rock It: Frederick charges at opponent with his fist covered in flame. On Level 2, he may continue the attack with a downward swing with Sheer Heart, and he may also end the attack with a flaming uppercut in Level 3.
- Savage Fang: a basic area-of-affect attack. Level 1 Savage Fang only produces one fire geyser, while Level 2 Savage Fang adds two more geysers. On Level 3, Savage Fang becomes a gigantic wall of flame.
- Tyrant Rave Omega: a powerful melee attack. On Level 1, it does only one hit but it knocks target out of range. On Level 2, Frederick proceeds with a flaming fist that also sends target away from him. On Level 3, Frederick may end the manoeuvre with a gigantic fireball unleashed from Sheer Heart.
- Dragon Install: Frederick temporarily “opens” the limiter and gains enhanced strength and speed throughout the 12-second period. During Dragon Install all his abilities are on Level 3 and Frederick can generally heal himself. Frederick will be left dazed and confused after Dragon Install ends.
- Sakkai: performed only in Dragon Install. Frederick braces himself and unleashes a shockwave that staggers target, shouting “DRAGON INSTALL!” at the same time. Then he assaults the opponent with a long, powerful combination of attacks, and finishes the manoeuvre with a gigantic fireball. This is the ultimate melee attack, with the ability to penetrate even the strongest barrier magic.
Because Charge System is very energy-consuming and takes very long time to perform, Frederick has modified his fighting style to include Belkan cartridge aid. This is referred as “EX Form”.
- Gun Flame: uses one cartridge, it comes out very quickly and can be linked to itself many times.
- Gun Flame Feint: Frederick makes the usual movement without actually tossing a projectile.
- Bandit Bringer: a powerful aerial downward fiery punch, and “bounces” the target off the ground upon hit. Consumes one cartridge.
- Volcanic Viper: an uppercut attack that can be linked to a knockdown kick. It consumes two cartridges.
- Tyrant Rave Beta: Frederick punches target once, then he slams Sheer Heart (enveloped in fireball) onto it. The punch itself doesn’t require cartridge, but the sword attack uses up to four cartridges, depending on the target’s defence.
- All Guns Blazing: categorized as “Breaker”-type ability, All Guns Blazing consumes all available cartridges and stores the compressed energy in Sheer Heart. Frederick slams the blade onto target, which is bounced off the ground by the strike, and he then charges “through” as the target descends. Frederick leaves the target stunned, sports a thumb’s down and turns away as massive explosions later engulf the target.
Some of the abilities aren’t governed by Charge System or Belkan cartridge.
- Fafnir: a powerful head-on strike not too dissimilar to Level 1 Rock It. It only does one hit.
- Sidewinder: a variation of Fafnir where it can be performed in midair.
- Rough Throw: Frederick grabs the target and tosses it to the ground, changing side during the process.
