He was born in Mid-Childa on MC 0051. Both his father, Yori Takahasi, and mother, Lowle Takahashi, were mages in the TSAB Ground Forces, his father recently arriving from Earth. His father had a special ability to control shadows, something called Shadow Art to his ancestors, and something that manifested in young Nobuyuki. As well as control of shadows, Nobuyuki had telekinetic abilities at a very young age, something very rare in mages. At the age of 3 one day, his parents saw him one day sitting down in his room, with 5 objects circling around him. As he grew older, his abilities grew more and more apparent, with the disadvantages showing too. The disadvantages were migraines, loss of feeling on some parts of the body, and insomnia. Still, his potential as a great mage outweighed the risk, and his parents sent him to the training academy.
There, he was known to be someone who was lazy, didn't seem to listen to things much, and didn't do much in terms of paperwork, but was one capable mage, expert tactician, and a natural leader. Further observation of him showed that he was actually a genius, showing the reason behind his affinity of tactics and leadership. There, he made few friends, including Satoshi Kazukuni, but the friends he chose were well-planned. He graduated actually near the bottom of his class, since in terms of exams and tests, he didn't do it.
Being placed into the 216th Special Combat Unit for his skills, he participated in Sky Squad as Sky 5, seeing the hardships of that squad. He learned how to manage his abilities, but still, the effects of his usage were apparent, sometimes forcing him to become incapacitated in the midst of action. Managing to bear through with the pain through medications and therapy, he became one of the best fighters of the unit and was a great leader in a pinch. At this time, he also met Fate Haralown, albeit under less-than-appropriate circumstances and during a mission where they were stranded for a while, and thought to be dead, on a hostile planet. While there, Haralown saved him more than once, and her fighting ability impressed him fully. When Major Bulgakov became leader of the 216th, he made a new squad, seeing the disadvantages of one huge squad. Nobuyuki was selected to be the leader of that unit, approved by Satoshi and the Major himself. He was also given the chance of naming his own squad. So, he took the mantle of being Thunder Squad's leader, where he remains, although he seems like he doesn't like the job...
He's best summed up in three words: lazy, slacking, intuitive. He doesn't care about paperwork and is quick to lay it on others, especially on his 2nd-in-command, Anne Vel Sithis. He doesn't seem to be one esily cheered up about things, and doesn't seem to have the initiative to do things either. If he's forced to, though, he could finish it in less time than anyone else, and still be considered as if he had prepared it days in advance. He's intuitive about Devices and AI, and is also able to repair them if needed to in a fix. Strangely, the only thing he seems intersted in is to just sit around and plan stuff, whether it's what to do in the next two days or formulating battle strategies, in which he seems like any other person. Even in mock battle, he looks like he's just being lazy, either floating around like there's nothing to worry about, or justlooking like he's sleeping. In actual combat, though, he's ready to ditch his seemingly lazy personality and trade it for a serious one, where his hobby works well. He can already plan enemy movements if he knows something about them, and his experience and ability to lead have been helpful.
Magic Style "Shadow Art":
An ancestral art that was in Nobuyuki's father's family, it uses shadows, whether it be their own shadows or a shadow from somewhere else. It is primarily a defensive magic style, and has little in the way of offensive art. Many in his father's family have been attuned to this magic style, but few could actually use it for attack and defense. In fact, Nobuyuki is a first, being the first to inherit that ability, since normally, users were few and far between. It requires a great mind to use, as there are a lot of hand signs associated with this magic style to activate a spell. The hand signs get more simpler the more knowledge and intelligence the user has. The advantage of this is that the spells use any shadow, whether small or large and doesn't need to use as much magical energy as other magic styles. Its disadvantage is that it is rare and that the power of the spell depends on how much shadow there is. The magic circle is similar to the Mid-Childa circle, except that there are Japanese characters instead of Greek letters.
-Doesn't use that much magical energy
-Needs any shadow.
-Great at defending and binds.
-Power of attacks depends on the shadows.
His Device, Xaldin, was the creation of his own self, helped by the tech department of the 216th when he came to the unit. Prior to that, he used the normal Mid-Childan staff. In it's sealed state, it resembles something like a mahjong tile. It has two forms, Krath Form and Trigram Form. In Krath Form, it resembles a three-sectioned staff, with the Japanese characters "空" and "雷". The most interesting thing about Xaldin is its Trigram Form. When intially formed, it looks like something covered in cloth, and held by a strap across it while Nobuyuki holds one spear. What is not usually shown is that inside the cloth are 5 more spears of the same type. Taking advantage of his telekinetic ablities, he can use those 5 spears in conjunction with the one he is holding, able to attack several targets. It also fits his seemingly lazy style in mock battles, with him seemingly doing nothing while his opponent is occupied with those spears, giving a good surprise to everyone. It is equipped with a cartridge system, holding about 12 cartridges total. It has a male AI, which addresses Nobuyuki as "Boss". Its voice pattern sounds like someone of noble status.
His fighting style depends on the situation. If it's just a mock battle or training, he's just gonna let his spells and spears do the work for him. In actual combat, though, he fights after planning a lot on what to do. His plans tend to be the key to success in their missions, although it leaves little room for flexibility. In combat, he uses a combination of his telekinetic abilities, his ability to control shadows, and his actual fighting ability. He's not very crafty with his spells; rather, he plans them on what time and how they should be used. Changing things in the middle of combat is too much of a hassle for him, and prefers to not deviate from his original plans.
His Barrier Jacket consists of a white undershirt, a black kimono and hakama, tabi, and a white, sleeved haori with a sky blue stripe on the left and a gold stripe on the right. He also has a conical straw hat with his Barrier Jacket, fitting of his Device and of his personality.
Telekinesis: The ability to control objects without any physical means, Nobuyuki always has this power applied to him, and he can use it at any time.
Shadow Control: Learned by his father, this spell can let Nobuyuki control shadows. He always casts it putting his fingers together in a triangle with two fingers forming a line running horizontally through it.
Area Search: Same as Sydney's Area Search, he has the quirk of forming a square with his fingers when he casts it.
Levitation: Using his innate telekinetic powers, Nobuyuki can fly through. He prefers to not use it as much, since it takes a lot out of him and he's not particularly inclined to fly.
Shadow Sprint: Using shadows, Nobuyuki can move extremely fast from one place to another. It is as fast as Sonic Move, and this is what Nobuyuki generally uses for movement.
Street Sweeper: In Krath Form, Nobuyuki swings Xaldin low on the ground, taking people by surprise. He can also use his magical power to make this spell's range longer.
Ground Shock: Using magical energy, Nobuyuki swings Xaldin in Krath Form down, manipulating the virbrations to make a shockwave towards a direction. Uses 1 cartridge.
Circle Sweep: Using his telekinetic powers and magical energy, Nobuyuki sends Xaldin out in Krath Form and swings it in a circle, taking out targets. He can also give more range to the spell at
the cost of weaking the power of his blows.
Vertical Spinner: Nobuyuki, using his telekeinetic abilities and magic energy, spins Xaldin in Krath Form vertically, making a oval useful for getting numerous hits on a enemy or for blocking.
Butterfly Sweep: Nobuyuki uses his telekinetic abilites and Shadow Sprint to flip around a line, easily taking out targets and doging potential fire.
Accel Shooter: Same as Nanoha's Accel Shooter, the difference is that instead of shooting it out of his hand, he uses the extra spears in Xaldin's Trigram Form to shoot one shot each.
Revolver Windmill: Using all of the spears when using Xaldin in Trigram Form, the spears strike one point and spin clockwise while Nobuyuki spins the whole group counter-clockwise. Uses 2 cartridges.
Point Strike: All of the spears converge on one point at high speeds.
Reverse Trident Buster: Using three spears, Nobuyuki shoots three lasers, each one fired separately, then form up to one big laser. Uses 3 cartridges.
Spear Whip: Using three or four spears, Nobuyuki can "attach" them by his telekinetic powers and swing them around, like a huge whip.
Geyser Strike: His AoE spell, Nobuyuki puts all of the spears up, surrounding him, and then flies parabolically to every direction, firing a burst of magical energy that covers the blind spots not hit by the spears. Uses 2 cartridges.
Arrow Snipe: Nobuyuki sends all of his spears spinning extremely fast, one at a time, to a target before launching himself up in the air in the same way. Uses 1 cartridge.
Shotgun Shower: He sends his spears to spread out in a shotgun effect, sending them back and forth through targets.
Impact Breaker: Nobuyuki uses Xaldin in Trigram Form to stab enemies, thne blows them apart by making a laser from each one and firing it point-blank. Uses 4 cartridges.
Shadow Strike: Nobuyuki uses his shadow to form a cone to strike at enemies.
Shadow Sting: Same as Shadowstrike, but Nobuyuki adds a poison that affects targets immediately.
Shadow Strangle: Nobuyuki uses the target's shadow to strangle the target itself.
Shadow Cross: Nobuyuki attacks the target wtih his own shadow and his targets, hitting them in a cross pattern.
Shadow Pierce: Nobuyuki uses shadows to make a spike that pierces targets.
Spear Guard: Using his spears, Nobuyuki spins them around to make a shield.
Circle Barrier: Using Xaldin in either Krath or Trigram Form, Nobuyuki can make a barrier by just spinning it around.
Shadow Shield: Using his own shadow, Nobuyuki can make a shield that can protect him. Lighting-based attacks can destroy it easily.
Shadow Sphere: Using shadows, he can make a sphere that can protect in all directions. Weaker than shadow shield and still can be easily broken by lighting-based attacks.
Shadow Layer Shield: Using several shadows, he makes a extremely tough shield, even lighting-based attacks don't break this easily.
Round Guard: Same as Nanoha's Round Guard.
Phalanx Guard: Using several Round Guards and placing them onto his spears, Nobuyuki can make a wall of shields, useful for magic attacks that other defensive spells wouldn't protect.
Shadow Pin: Pins the target down using their own shadow.
Shadow Paralyze: Paralyzes the target using their own shadow.
Delayed Bind: A bind that is set to capture someone at a later time.
-The other thing he likes to do more than think up stuff is just read.
-He's a fan of martial-arts movies, but doesn't show it.
-Despite the fact that he looks like some anime character in his Barrier Jacket, he's not a fan of anime.
-He doesn't like eating spicy foods since he has a low tolerance for it. This has been exploited as a joke several times.
-Sometimes, he actually has been found sleeping after a mock battle, although it seems that he was just being himself.
Currently working on SearcherS part 3, expect it later due to a lot of video game-related delays, though.
"Rarely here, mostly not."
