Background: Not much is known about Katsuhito’s past. What is known, though, is sobering- Katsu’s earliest memory is of him as a little boy with blood-soaked hands. Katsu wandered for a long and lonely time, leaving a trail of unexplainable blood behind him. Finally, on a dreary April fourth, an emissary from the Church of Velka found him and took the child to the main orphanage. Katsu never really fit in, making friends with only one other child- an older boy named Ignatius who had failed the paladin training (and was the prime suspect in a series of small fires). The two eventually joined the TSAB together, and worked together extensively. They were eventually recruited into the Riot squad as Riots Three and Four.
The only real obstacle Katsu encountered was a bad Shinji Complex (also called a lack of self-confidence). This came about due to his fear of his own temper (which he seemed to lose on occasion) and the fact that whenever a combat situation took too long, he would grow increasingly brutal. This is also why he latched onto Ignatius- the older boy took these moments in stride and supported him.
Everything went wrong one day. Jail Scaglietti organized a raid on a transport, and caught Section Six off guard. In the end, Katsuhito overloaded Claw King with the full power of his linker core in order to blow up the train and stop Scaglietti from acquiring the item on board. The item, a Lost Logia, was unaffected by the blast, but Katsuhito suffered massive damage to his body and linker core. Katsu’s body, in an attempt to survive, accessed a second linker core that had lain dormant and undetected for Katsu’s life. However, the new linker core contained the personality and memories of an entirely different person- a dark and evil person, now in control of a damaged body. When Jail’s Numbers got to the train, they found a barely alive body near their target. Per the Doctor’s orders, both were brought back, and the boy was later modified into a cyborg after agreeing to work for Scaglietti- under the condition that Satsuhito (as he called himself) be allowed to stage a raid on the Church of Velka.
Satsuhito as a fighter is incredibly brutal. He intentionally drags fights out in order to inflict as many wounds as he can without actually killing his opponent. To do this, he uses Katsuhito’s device- the second form of which he has unlocked- in conjunction with his IS ‘Recoil Boost’, which produces a short burst of kinetic energy. Satsuhito uses this burst to often disarm an opponent, and to increase the size and severity of already inflicted wounds. Satsu is also skilled at psychological combat, and can easily figure out what his opponent holds dear and act on that, taunting mercilessly. Satsuhito also uses his magic to great effect, often trapping an opponent in a sphere of darkness and injecting bursts of power inside.
The only person who truly knows what Satsu’s goals are is Satsuhito himself. All that is really known is that Satsuhito holds an intense hatred for the Church of Velka. He also seems to know about the “Vessel of the Saints” (Vivio), and has made offhand comments that suggest that he in fact met his ‘demise’ at the hands the original Vessel long ago. He has also implied that he clashed with and lost to Ignatius’s ancestor, the guardian of the Vessel, right before the Vessel dealt him the final blow.
It has also been confirmed that Satsuhito is the original personality, with Katsuhito being the second.
“Hahaha! This unrestrained strength… that reckless and untamed fighting style… these raging flames that threaten to reduce my body to mere ash… I see! You are of that man’s blood… that man who defeated me so long ago… Ha! This shall be interesting! Come, then, “Spirale der Flamme”- These claws shall rend your body to shreds!” –Satsuhito, episode 19
“How irritating… I am not as strong as I previously was. This body… has yet to attain the level of power that I once possessed. If I were as I once was, I could have easily have defeated you. However, as it stands now, I cannot. No matter…. I have completed the task that the Doctor assigned me. Farewell for now, Licht von Velka. As soon as I defeat the “Spiral of Flame”, I shall come for you.” -Satsuhito
“Why did that weakling create me? Ha… hahahaha! That is amusing! Who said… that he created me? That fool was the personality that was formed when that woman split my mind in two so many years ago! I am the original! He is the one who has no right to exist!” –Satsuhito
Miscellaneous facts:
-Katsuhito is scared of blood. This stems from his childhood, and the intense urge to cause more blood to appear.
-Katsuhito is also scared of candles. This stems from a prank Ignatius failed to execute properly (Katsu was not the intended target, but was caught in the crossfire).
-“Katsuhito” translates to “Split Person”. “Satsuhito” translates to “Kill Person”.
-Satsuhito speaks rather formally, rarely using contractions or common words (Satsu would say “I shall kill you,” instead of “I will kill you,” or “I’ll kill you.”) Most people don’t notice this, however, since Satsu usually kills everyone he meets.
