The Subjugation of Erusia (Some more retcon but whatever)
That was their designation for their powered exoskeletal armors.
Equipped with the latest in personal weaponry and equipment, these suits were the pinnacle of Erusian soldier technology. There were multiple types, all of which saw heavy use: stealth exoskeletons painted with metamaterial fibers that allowed for near-complete invisibility to powered armor for frontline units that enhanced their basic abilities with technology and chemical injections and even some equipped with Jetpacks that allowed higher mobility rates.
There were two problems: one was that the suits were limited in number. When a soldier was killed, the suit was usually rendered inoperable due to heavy damaged. For two, there were a limited number of people qualified to use the suits; that is, people who could actually use them and not hurt themselves in the process. As such, the Battlemech suits were used sparingly, usually alongside tanks and with air support as the Erusians were slowly whittled down.
It wasn't all victories for the TSAB. A minor skirmish in the city-base of North Point turned into a full-scale firefight as the Erusians made full use of all the military tactics they had available to them and managed to force the TSAB to retreat out of the city for a time as they regrouped. It was the first victory for the Erusians, and as word spread, there was a period of time when the Erusians were winning multiple fights.
However, this small period of victory did not last long. It took quite a while to muster up more reinforcements, but eventually the TSAB brought in more soldiers, boosting the already prominent TSAB presence to over a million strong on each planet. The Erusian's already butchered supplies (thanks to TSAB air strikes and bombardment) reduced their flight capability and tank mobility to nearly zero. With the help of the citizens sympathetic to the TSAB cause, they were able to root out Erusian soldiers hiding amongst the populace. The TSAB moved on to locate and destroy the Erusians' hidden bases - obviously, the ones they could locate.
It wasn't until after a year of war that the few Device-users of the Erusians finally came out of hiding. There was a warship's worth of them, matching the number of Devices that had been stored on the Ramza. They had been spending the past year hiding, training, refining their skills, and they finally felt they were capable of fighting the TSAB. The TSAB, meanwhile, had been hunting these Erusian mages, believing them to be the only true threat to their forces. When they came out of hiding, however, they acted in a fashion the TSAB had not quite expected: using desperate, insurgent attacks to defeat the TSAB in sporadic intervals.
There were few Erusian mages, after all, and if you ranked them they'd probably mark about a C+ or B on average. They relied just as much on conventional weapons, not having the skill to properly control their magic like the TSAB did. Their few attacks caused them to expend a lot of energy, and usually resulted whichever Erusian mage involved to end their attack by pulling the detonation cord on the explosive packs they carried with them; their swan song. As many mages employed this tactic as regular soldiers; in fact, after a while suicide bombing was usually expected during an Erusian attack.
After two years of war, the Erusian soldiers got either jaded or even more desperate. The mages that hadn't died or committed suicide defected to the TSAB along with handfuls of soldiers who cried for an end to the fighting. As the TSAB forces worked in restoring order to the planets Erusia and Sotoa, they had much of the civilian populace on their side (or at the least, acting like it), and in return for their cooperation the TSAB helped form a government and security force to help. This security force, the Gardai, helped the TSAB maintain order as the TSAB tracked down the last pockets of heavy Erusian resistance.
The second and third years weren't so much tiring as they were
. The constant suicide attacks, the insurgent movements, did not take so much a heavy toll on the TSAB presence as it slowly grew as the resistance liked to believe. By Year 3, most of the soldiers had defected or surrendered to the TSAB, and their presence was as noticable as the Erusian armies had been. The TSAB had started to restore the cities to what they once were, helping repair what they had destroyed, and in turn more civilians began to support the TSAB. The remaining soldiers around that were fighting them had no support. And it was in this year, MC 059, that the war ended in an explosive fashion.
The war had already been considered over, and the former Erusian military were considered nothing more than terrorists. Their desperation had hit an all new height when Erusia's remaining military forces finally capitulated and turned themselves over to the TSAB. When word of this reached the soldiers on Sotoa, all hell broke loose. Deep within a mountain range, where no bases were touched and left unfound, the last known group of Erusian military gathered together for their final stanza. Within this base, the entirety of the nuclear weapons stashed away by both sides had been gathered; archaic weapons from a former era. Many had been dismantled, but all in all about ten-thousand nuclear missiles remained.
By now, much of the TSAB fleet had dispered, and so except for a token fleet to help maintain order, there was little in the way of missile defense. The Erusians targeted places all along the world of Sotoa and launched nine-thousand of the nuclear warheads. The reaction was as quick as the TSAB could manage; once they figured out what was going on, the TSAB began to shoot down the missiles from space, and the TSAB's fastest mages moved in to intercept them. But despite their best efforts, they barely shot down over half of the missiles, and on September of MC059, nearly two-thousand nuclear explosions occured in various points all over Sotoa, killing billions instantly and dousing everything on it in radiation.
The missiles that hadn't been shot down hit various major cities, forests, mountain ranges, the oceans, the polar ice caps, anywhere targetable. Once that damage had been done, the remaining Erusian soldiers detonated the remaining one-thousand warheads in their base - a last, defiant cry of "Better to die than be enslaved."
The TSAB immediately went from a defensive force to a rescue operation, trying to save the lives of Sotoan/Erusian citizens and TSAB soldiers alike. Those who didn't die to the nuclear blasts were quickly succumbing to the immense radiation. The dust clouds on Sotoa were threatening to put the planet into a state of nuclear winter. On Erusia, the soldiers who had fought so hard and desperately threw themselves to the ground and cried for their fellow people, cursing those who had committed such an act and vowing never to pick up a gun again. TSAB soldiers were also horrified that people could do such an act to their own kind, and news of the atrocity spread as fast as news could.
It was on this night that former Erusian mage and soldier Erick von Long vowed to stop an act like this from happening again, and it was shortly thereafter that the Order of Freelance Mages would undergo its trial run. This act would scar Lindy Harlown, watching from her position on the ship she was on, and it's part of what gave her such a sympathy to Non-Administered Worlds, such as Earth.
But in the end, it was over. The war that the Erusians had at first so openly welcomed, finally ended, and the monument to their soldier's defiance was visible for all of the galaxy to see.
Shortly thereafter, on MC060, Erusia became an administered world.
MC061 would mark the first time an Erusian would be recruited into the TSAB.
MC062 was the beginning of the Order of Freelance Mages, and MC064, two years later, saw their induction as an official unit in the TSAB. Throughout the next thirteen years, they would be assigned to various planets to help with peacekeeping... and sometimes, to prevent another event like Sotoa from occuring.
On MC068, the clouds over Sotoa began to break, and by MC069, the stars shined on its barren surface.
At one point in MC070, the OFM's top mages meet 3 young girls: Hayate Yagami, Nanoha Takamachi, and Fate T. Harlown. In Franz Jaeger's own words: "See? See?! I told you they existed!" much to the girls' confusion. So begins a first-awkward, then comfortable, friendship.
Tk, Lii, if you wanna rip this apart go for it. I'll probably make some minor changes, but now, Goose and I have characters to make >.< .
