Elfen Lied. The first 10 minutes looked promising, but it promptly collapsed within the first episode. I completely fail to understand what the writers were trying to achieve with this series. It tried to be horrific and over-the-top cute at the same time. And the characters can be oh-so-unbelievably stupid. You see a naked girl with a bleeding wound on the beach, and instead of sending her to a hospital or a police station right away, you take her home instead. Very smart indeed.
This show represents everything I hate about popular anime. Throw in gratuitous sex and violence, and watch the fanboys froth over it. Who cares about realistic character and plot development? Just give them the gore and they'd think it's a masterpiece.
