Dunno about "recent", but by the sound of it, the China as it is in the world of CG seems a lot similar to how China was in the beginning of the ROTK; the corrupt enuchs holding the true power of the country, a population that seems to be suffering from poverty and starvation and of course a number of people who wants to put the emperor (or rather empress) on the throne for real...

If this is in fact our Zero, I wonder how he ended up there and what his goal is. Safest guess I would assume is to expand his horizons on the campaign against "injustice," so as to say. I guess Zero may end up taking a side in whatever domestic upheaval might be going on, or he may be the person who ultimately causes the turmoil to reach a boiling point leading to the events of Turn 10 when Li becomes involved. Hopefully Zero plays his cards right in order to earn some greater respect from Li.

Well, it's not impossible that this time around, Lelouch will be little more than spectator, but it's also possible that he is the one who causes it all, as you say. After all, he may have made a deal with Li to help him to reinstate the empress, so by geassing either the enuchs or the brittanians into doing something that breaks off the alliance, it ´probably helps Li in his cause and makes things troublesome for the enuchs
