Spoiler for More random violence, an extra scene:
Further up the fields, several Guardsmen, each armed with a variety of devices, threaded closer to the plume of dust where Bureau forces had secretly landed. Commissar Higgins noted the target, a silenced chopper landing crack troops, then whispered into the local psycommu net, "Primary threat spotted."
"Moving into position," cackled the reply. Satisfied, Higgins nodded to his pointman.
The leading Knight sheathed his sword and angled his mini-bolter at several shadows. "Neutralizing."
But he had no time to pull the trigger. A magical lance cored his brains as clean as a whistle.
"TAKE COVER!!!" Higgins screamed as he ran for it, his fellow knights following his lead and piled behind the boulders they had emerged from.
Like a horde of screaming banshees, the Bureau's black opts team charged out of the fog, charging bolts of magic around them and unleashing it at the huddled knights. At the same time, dull booms rang out throughout the city.
"Strike from the skies, my brothers!" came Grand Meister Kha's command, and Higgins took heed. He gestured to his men; on mark, they burst out at the frontrunners, watching some immediately get crushed by a descending battlepod from which more knights spilled out.
Blades clashed; one knight missed, and his opponent whipped around to bury an energy blade in his torso; a step away, a knight rended an assassin with his chainsword; another took potshots at his shifting adversaries, then lashed out at an agent who closed with him.
A sniper crept up to the enmeshed knight and shouldered his rifle. His shot glanced off the knight's spaulders, making him fall on his back and having to roll from danger. He cursed his luck and hurried to reload, when he heard an audible click to his left. The knights' heavy weapons guy let fly from his heavy bolter, reducing the sniper to nothing but a pile of flesh in a hail of bullets.
Another target emerged; the knight swung right and fired; the new agent disappeared and reappeared in another spot; the knight shifted, and missed again; now the mage teleported out of sight; The knight spotted the special agent perched on a rock above him, but his weapon was too heavy to reaim so close, and Snipe Shots quickly brought him down.
The agent was satisfied with his work, then fell as a lone bolt cleaned his clock. Higgins reangled his smoking boltgun and charged at the remaining two black ops personnel. One knight dashed ahead, Higgins close behind, both men dumping bolter rounds into the hostiles. Elric bounced out of the way as his last man went down and threw his lance, spearing the pointman through the heart. He withdrew it just as Higgins reached him, and both parties locked devices before kicking free of each other.
"This plateau is ours, Heretic," Higgins huffed.
"No," Elric remarked, as a blue tornado appeared on the horizon behind him, defolding an entire fleet of TSAB ships, which began bombarding Belka positions at earnest. "Not just this plateau; Belka is ours."
Higgins took only a moment to glance, heck the sight, grit his teeth, raise his chainsword, and spring into assault once more.
Look what you made me do!
