Chapter 2 - Kings Lance
Chapter 2: King’s Lance
After knocking out several soldiers who were guarding the facility, Fate and Teana made it out and headed directly to Varuna as fast as they could. As they made their way through the mountainous area, a powerful blast of wind suddenly hit Teana which knocked her off of her flight path. To make it worse, Optic Hide EX Plus was disabled after she received the attack. Fate was about to go down to assist Teana; however, someone suddenly attacked her from behind but she managed to blocked the sword with Bardiche. As she gazed at the one who made the attack, she saw a man with black hair and red eyes. He was carrying a zweihander class sword but it was shorter compared to the Zanber Form.
As Fate prepared to use lightning bind to get the researcher out of the way, another blast of wind was on its away. Fate managed to avoid the attack with Blitz Rush. Another man made his appearance, this time his weapon was a gauntlet and a powerful gust of wind was completely surrounding him. His hair was dark-brown and his eyes were dark-green. Fate was at a disadvantage, not only she couldn't defend herself properly while carrying the researcher; she also couldn't fight in full force. Teana called out to Fate as she flew back. Fate then decided to let go of the researcher while Teana caught him with her arms. At the same time, Fate used Trident Lancer which headed directly towards the two Aldian Knights. However, a powerful gust expanded on a sphere form which surrounded the two knights. The sphere prevented the Trident Lancer from hitting them. Suddenly the swordsman appeared behind Fate, and carried out a vertical slash but Fate blocked it. The swordsman responded by kicking Fate in her left waist which caused her to be thrown off balance. However, Fate gathered her strength and used Blitz Rush again, and responded to the attack with a Haken Slash. The attack hit the knight's face which caused a burned cut on his left cheek.
The swordsman then responded by thrusting his blade towards Fate but she blocked it with Bardiche. However; the thrust was too strong. In addition, the lightning that was causing the immense light on the knight's blade looked like a cannon that was about to fire. The blinding light left the sword, and headed towards Fate. In response, Fate flew back immediately, and blocked it with her field; however, the attack penetrated her defensive spell, and made a direct hit which caused Fate to crash unto the nearest mountain.
After leaving the unconscious researcher near a cliff, Teana intended to assist Fate but her hands were full. The knight with the gauntlet prevented her from giving Fate any assistance. The gauntlet user casted Wind Cutter which homed directly to Teana. Since avoiding it was difficult, Teana responded by using Crossfire Shoot which shot down all the wind sickles. The collision between the two spells created an explosion. The gauntlet user then took the opportunity and dashed directly to the fading smoke and saw a faint figure inside. Then, a powerful wind surrounded his gauntlet and punched the figure. It was a direct hit; however, the gauntlet user was surprised when he saw the figure dematerialized into smaller magic particles.
"Wha! An illusion?" he gasped.
Then the gauntlet user sensed a powerful spell being casted. When he looked around, he
saw Teana casting her bombardment spell, Phantom Blazer. The problem he's facing
now was that, there was a total five Teanas surrounding him, and casting the same spell.
"Another illusion," the gauntlet user thought to himself.
He couldn’t tell which of the five is the real one. The gauntlet user decided to use a wide-range wind spell. The offensive spell hit all five Teanas, but they were all silhouettes. He then noticed that the real Teana was actually further above him. He then realized that she used an invisible spell, and used the silhouettes as a distraction while the real one was farther away, and was out of his sight. While Teana was about to unleash her Star Dust Blazer (A new variation of Phantom Blazer), the gauntlet user responded by preparing an offensive spell. As he prepared to attack, a shooting spell hit him from the back of his head. It turned out that Teana casted Shoot Barret F ahead of time, and homed it to the gauntlet user while she was casting her Star Dust Blazer. The attack was a direct hit. As he was falling, the gauntlet user was preparing to cast a defensive spell to protect himself from an incoming spell. However, when he turned his head towards Teana, who was in a higher altitude than him, he saw what was under her skirt which caused him to lose concentration. When he came to his senses, it was already too late. The bombardment spell was on its way. The spell made a direct hit which caused him to crash into the ground, and caused an explosion right after.
As the swordsman levitated while looking at Fate on the ground, the huge explosion from the direction where his partner was fighting got his attention.
"Don't tell me...Lanos..." He gasped with great concern.
The swordsman then sensed Fate flying towards him again. Midway before she reached the swordsman, a sphere of lightning surrounded Fate. After she passed through it, Fate’s outfit had changed. She was now in Shin Sonic form while Bardiche was in Riot form. The swordsman prepared himself against the mage who charged at him. Fate then made an upward slash but the swordsman avoided it by moving to his right slightly. Fate followed by making a horizontal slash, but the swordsman avoided it again by moving back, and farther away from Fate's range. However, Fate suddenly combined both blades which created a larger one, and made a diagonal slash. The swordsman parried the attack and countered, but Fate avoided his slash by using Blitz Rush again. Fate then appeared behind the swordsman and carried out a horizontal slash but the swordsman avoided the attack by flying downwards. As he descended while facing Fate, he saw Trident Blades coming after him. The swordsman avoided and deflected several blades, but when the last three were about to reach him, the blades suddenly exploded.
The swordsman flew out of the smoke and pointed his sword towards Fate, who already separated her sword into two. The swordsman then used his shooting spell, Rail Shot; however, Fate deflected all of the projectiles as she dashed in full speed towards her opponent. When Fate reached him, she used both of her swords at the same time, and made a cross slash. The swordsman blocked it again, but Fate followed it with kick. When the attack was about to hit the swordsman's face, he suddenly moved his head to avoid it. Before Fate's foot passed by completely on his head, the swordsman grabbed it and threw Fate directly to the ground.
As Fate was falling, she casted Trident Lancer again but the swordsman deflected all of it as he chased after her. Right after she landed, Fate jumped back immediately which caused her to avoid the swordsman's downward slash. She then proceeded by using Trident Smasher against the swordsman who just landed on the ground. Unable to avoid it on time, the swordsman stayed on the same spot, and thrust his sword against the middle part of the Trident Smasher. He pierced through the spell which split it in two as it passed by him.
Fate was astonished from what she saw.
The swordsman was about to counterattack but a shooting spell was headed towards him. The knight avoided it, and looked at the direction where it came from. He then saw Teana who arrived on the scene.
"Surrender at once! There is no way you can win against the two of us just by yourself!" Teana demanded.
The swordsman lowered his blade and stayed silent. The smirk on his face greatly annoyed Teana. Even though, he's facing two opponents, he was still composed and not threatened at all.
"Where's the other knight and the researcher, Teana?" Fate asked.
"I left the researcher under a tree that’s near a cliff not too far from here. I used a bind
on the other knight, and left him in the place where he collapsed,” Teana answered back.
Right after Teana gave her report, a gust of wind appeared next to the swordsman. As the
gust of wind disappeared, Teana saw a familiar figure. It was Lanos.
"That was sooooooooo rude, leaving an injured man by himself. To make it worse, you just had to put those binds on me. Geez, how long do you think it took me to get it off,"
Lanos complained like a spoiled child.
"Sorry Asclei! She was better than I expected! She got me pretty well," Lanos apologized
while scratching his head.
"I can pretty much imagine," Asclei responded while looking intently at Teana from top to bottom.
Teana was surprised to see Lanos who was supposed to be knocked out.
Fate on the other hand stared silently towards Asclei, and prepared to attack.
Before Fate and Teana could make other movements, the swordsman, Asclei interrupted by mentioning a few words.
"Don't you think this is enough? We have no intentions of fighting with you two any
further than this. We already achieved our own objective, and same goes for the two of
"That maybe so; however, you two have seen us. I can't just simply leave things the way
they are! With that said, sorry but we'll be taking you two with us as well! Teana!" Fate commanded.
"Yes! Fate-san!" Teana kept her weapons at the ready.
Asclei saw the response of the two and gave out a sigh.
"I guess it can't be helped then," Asclei exclaimed.
"I'd love to go with you ladies but... Unfortunately, I can‘t right now" Lanos uttered with great disappointment.
As Fate and Teana moved towards the two Aldian Knights, Asclei threw four lightning
daggers into the ground which released a blinding light.
"Sorry, but we'll be taking our leave now. One more thing, it seems that the soldiers that
you two knocked out started to wake up one by one. I'd leave this area immediately if I
As the light faded away, the Aldian Knights were nowhere to be found.
Teana turned to Fate's direction.
"I guess we have no other options, let's leave this area right away and report everything once we get back to Varuna," Fate replied
The two took the researcher with them and flew at top speed directly to Varuna.
Asclei and Lanos were headed back to their headquarters.
"So Teana is her name. It's Tea-chan then," Lanos stated while laughing perversely.
"To think that the TSAB mages that we'd encounter tonight were actually women. I guess the rumor was true," Asclei said in a soft voice.
"Rumor? What rumor?" Lanos asked curiously.
Asclei made a sigh after he heard Lanos' question.
"The rumor about TSAB's top mages being made up of mostly women!" Asclei answered back.
"REALLY?!!!!" Lanos responded enthusiastically and coughed right after.
"Well, at least they were actually pretty strong and pretty cute too." Lanos uttered in a low voice.
"So? How was it?" Asclei asked.
"It was black!" Lanos responded enthusiastically. His eyes shone like a jewel.
"Not that, you fool! I'm talking about her combat capabilites!"Asclei replied.
"Eh? Oh, she ok," Lanos answered back.
His tone of voice showed his lack of interest regarding the matter.
"That's it?" Asclei responded.
"Well, I found out that the thing underneath those skirts are not just for a show but
are dangerous tactical equipment that can distract healthy young beautiful men like us!"
Lanos answered back with a serious expression and tone of voice.
"You also had a good look, didn't you?" Lanos asked while turning his face towards Asclei's direction, waiting for his response.
"Sorry but I wasn't paying attention. I'd really appreciate it, if you stop putting me in the same group as you," Asclei answered back.
"Whatever the case is, at least we know now that TSAB have mages that can
actually match the King's Lance. Maybe the others would consider forming an alliance
this time," Asclei declared.
"True but if only they had more mages like that, the Aldian army wouldn't have crossed the borders of Orthia so easily," Lanos replied.
"Rest assured. According to Shanon, the TSAB sent some of their best mages and knights. Drake also found out that TSAB had dispatched an SS ranked mage and will arrive in Orthia in a few days or so," Asclei uttered with a smile on his face.
"I see. I guess we don’t have to worry about Orthia being taken down just yet,"
Lanos answered back.
"More importantly, I hope Shanon and Drake are going to be okay by themselves," Lanos stated with a worried look on his face.
"They'll be fine. Despite of their limited magic capabilities, their swordsmanship skills are more than enough to make up for it," Asclei responded confidently.
"I guess that's also true. More importantly. The soldiers in that facility must have notified the headquarters by now. We must cover up that wound on your face right away or else they'll become suspicious on how you got a burned cut on your cheek when you're suppose to be doing some desk work," Lanos replied.
"I guess so,"Asclei agreed.
"So Fate was her name... Have I heard of that name before? It sounds familiar..." Asclei thought to himself.
When the two saw the city walls, they began to descend, and entered the city of Fenice
which was the second nearest city to the research facility. It was also the city where
Asclei and Lanos were being stationed currently. The two snuck inside their base and
returned to their posts. With the return of the real Asclei and Lanos, the ones that took
their place while they were gone (subordinates that specialized in transformation spells)
left immediately while avoided being seen by others.
