“Damn it! Why am I so helpless?” Tears. Frustration. Pain.
Do you want to help them?
“Yes! More than anything!”
Will you agree to my terms?
Hesitation. No. No more. “I... I Yuuno S. Harlaown swear... I will end this war!”
The pact is made.
My name is Yuuno Harlaown. My older brother says I'm something of a dork- but that's not true at all! Just because I'm blind without my glasses and I've never actually had a girlfriend doesn't mean I'm not... you know... undorky. Ah... never mind.
My family isn't big. It's just me, my two older brothers and our mother we had been happily living in a small little town near Tokyo for as long as I could remember when mom suddenly decided she wanted a change of pace. Heh... sorry that probably sounds very weird to you, but it's normal for mom, she just gets these whims you know.
Our first morning in our new home was nothing special. I woke up last, I admit to liking my sleep, even though that made me Chrono-nii-san's prime target. Immediately I put on my glasses and tied up my hair, I've kept my hair long for a while even though Chrono says it makes me look like a girl. I started to slip on my old jeans but I remembered halfway that I had a new uniform to put on. I opened up my closet and removed the set of clothes, still wrapped up in plastic. I hadn't wanted to put it on yet, somehow doing so without going to school felt weird. I quickly unwrapped it. It consisted of a white button up shirt underneath a light brown jacket, topped off by a red tie and a pair of pants of course! I hurriedly put it on, it was a bit stiff, perhaps I should have washed it first. Nevertheless I had no choice but to hurry down stairs.
“Mornin' sunshine!” My black haired older brother grinned up at me from the table. Chrono was only a year older then me but he treated me like I was still a little kid, but it didn't bother me, I knew he cared in his own way. Chrono was a hard worker but he enjoyed keeping a relaxed facade on. Though we knew better.
“Good morning,” I sat down in the chair next to him, across from my other brother. “Good morning Aniki.”
Zafira looked at me over his newspaper and nodded in greeting. Zafira wasn't the type to us words if he didn't need to. He was a big guy, years of playing whatever sport interested him in the moment had made him extremely muscular, even more so when compared to Chrono's and my spaghetti arms. His hair had gone white when he was fifteen but somehow it only seemed to make him more popular with girls. In fact both my brothers were popular with ladies... I was the odd one out.
“Here Yuuno,” a plate of pancakes was placed in front of me. “Eat up, you have an important day you know. You have to go impress all the girls.”
I turned red while Chrono snickered, “M-Mom!”
My mother, Lindy Harlaown, just put a hand to her cheek and sighed. “My boys are all in high school now. What's a mother like me to do? Soon you'll all be leaving.” Even though Chrono was the only one of us related to her by blood she was 100% our mother. Mom used to be in the military as an active officer, but when she adopted Zafira and me she moved down to a desk job, but she left them when we moved here, today she was starting work for a pharmaceutical company though she wouldn't tell us any details.
“It's not like we'll leave you mom,” Chrono rolled his eyes. His father had died when he was young so he was a lot like us, only ever knowing Lindy as his parent.
Zafira was abandoned as a child and lived in an orphanage when Lindy adopted him.
And as for me, Aniki had found me on the streets where I was wandering with a head injury, eight years ago. I don't really remember anything before that, apparently my birth parents and I were in a car crash that only I survived. The doctors said the amnesia would wear off eventually but it hasn't yet and I'm glad to be honest, this is my family and I don't want to remember another one.
“Mmm,” Zafira nodded in agreement, turning the page of his paper.
I merely dug into the pancakes, I was hungrier then I had thought.
“If you stay here kid you'll be late for your first day,” Chrono knocked his knuckle against the side of my head.
Zafira too was standing now, still reading his paper.
“I'm coming,” I stood up too.
“Well let's get going! School and potential girlfriends await us!” Chrono punched his fist into the air, “well for me at least.”
“Gracia-sensei,” I straightened my tie nervously. “I'm happy to be here.” I stiffened up like a board.
My new homeroom teacher simply smiled kindly and opened up the classroom door. “You seem like a kind boy Harlaown-kun, I'm sure you'll be well liked.” I followed her in side.
“Everyone!” She clapped her hands together, drawing the attention of most of the students. “We have a new student transferring into our class.” She motioned to me.
I bowed before the class, “I'm Yuuno Harlaown. I hope we'll get along.”
I scanned the students, all of them were watching me with varying levels of interest. Except for one girl, a blond with long hair, staring out the window. She was absently fiddling with a pencil, paying me absolutely no mind.
Then there was another girl paying too much attention to me. The girl with short brown hair was sitting in the back, hands folded on the desk and looking at me as if well as if she was sizing me up, for what I wasn't sure I wanted to know.
“You can take the seat between Testarossa-kun and Takamachi-kun... well if she was here at least.” She pointed at the desk between the blond and an empty one, it was also in front of that focused girl.
I nodded and sat in the seat she indicated. Maybe things were going to be okay after all.
“Oi oi you're Yuuno right?” I suddenly felt something heavy on my back, someone had attached themselves to me.
“Vice get off the poor guy.”
I looked over my shoulder at the brown haired boy who had slung himself over my shoulder. “Ah you're in my class right?” I wondered if this was normal occurrence at the school. “Um...” I tried to remember his name, it was one of the many I'd have to memorize, “Granscenic-san right?”
He laughed. “Vice, call me Vice.” He grinned so widely I thought his face would split. He jabbed his finger at the green haired young man next to him. “And he's-”
“Griffith,” he pushed up his glasses and shook my hand. “Griffith Lowran, pleased to meet you.”
“A bit stuffy,” Vice stuck his tongue out at the other freshman. “Wanna eat lunch with us? We always get the prime chick watching spots~.”
Griffith rolled his eyes, “At least get off him.”
I chuckled nervously, he was rather heavy actually, “yes please.”
Vice sighed and, rather dramatically, rolled off of me. “Yeah yeah.”
I stood up straight, rubbing my shoulders. “So where do you eat lunch?”
Vice smiled cattishly, “In front of the girl's restr-”
Griffith hit Vice with a folder, “Don't give Yuuno the idea we're some kind of pervs.” He sighed, “In front of the school, students are allowed to leave campus during lunch so people are always passing by, it's noisy but nice.”
“And there are all kinds of chi-"
“Get a hobby Vice.”
“It's called chick watching.”
I smiled to myself as the three of us headed outside. They seemed like nice enough guys, even if they were just a touch odd, but who wasn't after all. As we got outside I was surprised to find it mostly empty then again it was a little past the start of lunch so most everyone was already settled into their usual spots.
Vice pointed to a spot right underneath a giant tree, just off of the main path. He patted me on the back, “You hold this spot Yuuno while we go get some grub. I'll get you a bean bun or somethin'!” He grabbed Griffith and ran off before I had a chance to tell him I didn't need anything, I'd made my own lunch the night before.
I sighed and sat down underneath the tree. The shade was nice, much better then sitting out in the sun, but I had to wonder why no one else had taken it. Oh well, that wasn't important. I looked up at the sky, only a few wispy clouds drifted about lazily, the perfect sky to take a nap under. I was getting sleepy just looking at them. I turned my attention to the large school building.
That was when she caught my eye. On the roof of the school building, standing on the railing supposed to keep people safely away from the roof edge was a girl. I couldn't make out much at all about her, except for her long long brown hair tied into a side ponytail and the fact that her arms were held out straight as if she was planning on flying off of the roof. I was entranced by this girl. How was it she could stand so nonchalantly, inches away from a quick end?
I jolted up. That was right, what she was doing was dangerous, deadly even. I had to stop her!
A. I have to stop her anyway I can!
B. I have to get help!
C. I know I'll stand below her and catch her if she falls!
