“Don't do it!” I yelled up. “You'll regret it!”
For a moment she looked down at me with a puzzled look, then she turned into a tomato, made a startled noise and tumbled down...
Well backwards actually. The girl fell off the fence and onto the roof safe and sound. But there was no telling if she'd try it again. The last thing I wanted was to look away for a moment and give her another chance. I ran away from the tree and back into the school, I'd explain it to Vice and Griffith later.
I skid into the hallway and dashed past the students lingering there, looking odd was the least of my concerns at the moment. I recalled that there had been a service elevator on the first floor. Though I was sure it was out of boundaries for students, rules hardly applied. I prayed that the elevator was faster then she could runaway from the scene or climb back onto the fence. Luckily it was surprisingly fast for a school that was falling apart on itself. I arrived at the roof quickly and threw open the door, that was cracked open, as if ready for me.
The girl was still on the roof still. She was just sitting there, happily eating her lunch. When I slammed the door open she looked up at me blankly. “Um... hello?”
I clenched my fists together, it was best to be a blunt as possible. “Suicide isn't the right thing to do!”
She looked at me as if I had just shouted, “Milk comes from cows!” Finally she broke the silence with a giggle, “Well yeah I know that. Are you going around telling everyone?”
I faltered, “But weren't you about to jump off that roof?”
Her mouth twisted in what seemed to be an attempt to hold in her laughter. It did seem to be working out, “Nya ha ha.” She rubbed the back of her head, “Well you see it's the sky's fault.”
I was utterly baffled. “The... sky?”
She patted the ground next to her and I sat down next to her. “Well you see how blue it is.” She pointed up. The sky was clear today, pure, empty, like some artist had decided to just dump a bunch of blue paint on the sky. It was pretty but I didn't see how that related to her standing on the fence.
“Well I suppose.”
“Well I felt like flying today,” she took a bite of the cutely made lunch, a piece of rice stuck to her cheek. “So I decided to skip class and come out here.” She wanted to fly? I recalled how she had held out her arms when she was on the fence, I figured that was what she meant.
“Wait,” it clicked in my head, “You wouldn't be Takamachi-san per chance would you?”
“Mmm,” she nodded, “Nanoha Takamachi. Have we met before? You look familiar.”
“Heh,” It was my turn to rub my head, “I just transferred in today, but I have one of those faces I've been told.” She looked at me expectantly and I realized I'd forgotten something important. “Oh! I'm sorry I completely forgot,” I offered her my hand, “I'm Yuuno, Yuuno Harlaown.”
She smiled, I turned a touch red as she took my hand, “Well it's nice to meet you Yuuno-
That got me, I went from lightly red to a bright red, Chrono was right, I was no good with girls, “Ah-ah Takamachi-san we just met an-”
“No Takamachi-san,” She pouted, I felt the urge to look away, “You'll make me feel old and we're friends now.”
Friends? I wondered to myself just how fast this girl normally made friends. “Then... Nanoha...-san?”
She grinned happily, “Yep. Friends are supposed to say each others names you know.”
“It's a bit embarrassing though,” I couldn't quite put my finger on why. “I feel like I'm being rude.”
She looked very serious for a moment, “Don't. If anyone thinks it's odd I'll just befriend them too,” somehow, the way she said befriend made me feel that wasn't what she was actually going to do to them.
I chuckled, unsure if her smile meant she was joking or not. “Well Nanoha-san I-”
In the middle of my sentence Nanoha jumped up, nearly spilling the contents of her lunch everywhere, “We're going to be late!”
“But the bell hasn't-”
I leaped up, “Already!”
She grabbed my arm, “Let's go!”
We slid into our seats just as the bell rang. I noticed Vice giving me a rather large thumbs up, he'd obviously seen me come in with Nanoha. Griffith had also given me a nod of approval so there were obviously no hard feelings there.
They weren't the only one giving me looks though. I noticed a blond with short hair and a girl with long purple hair giving me two very different looks, the blond's was of utter rage and the other's of mild curiosity. I was thankful that class didn't give either of them the opportunity to talk to me.
Unfortunately class couldn't distract them forever and time quickly passed by. With every second I grew more fearful that that blond was going to come and demand answers. My fear grew more when she stood up and started angrily stomping towards my desk.
But to my fortune she turned to Nanoha's desk and slammed her hands down there. “Nanoha! How could you skip! Again!”
“Nya ha ha, well it was just so nice out.”
“That's no excuse! And what were you doing with HIM!” Her arm flew out and her hand stopped inches from my face.
“Arisa, your scaring the new student,” the purple haired girl placed a hand on the scary girl's shoulder.
Nanoha leaned towards me, “Yuuno-kun meet Arisa-chan and Suzuka-chan. Please forgive Arisa for being so rude.”
Arisa rolled her eyes, “well excuse me for looking out for my friends.”
“It's nice to meet you all,” I gave what a hoped was a friendly smile.
Suzuka smiled back but Arisa shrugged, “yeah yeah, ready to go Nanoha?”
Nanoha nodded and stood, “Ne Yuuno-kun?”
“Ah yes Tak- Nanoha-san.”
“My family runs a bakery. If you get hungry be sure to stop by 'kay~”
I blinked as the girls walked out of the room. Was that... an invitation?
A. Well I really just want to explore the town maybe I'll go to the bakery later
B. I'm kind of hungry and Nanoha did offer so the bakery sounds good
C. Nanoha's nice but I really just want to head home
Decisions decisions, the question is what will lead to what? remember big and blue
