After 3 months of designing (and slacking >_>) my new OC is complete!
I present to you,
April 16 MC 042
Place of Birth:
Physical and Illusion
Close- and Mid-range Combat
Unknown Prototype Intelligent Device
Device Primary Structure:
Sentient yellow bat with belt and Fustle System
Device Storage Form:
When inactive, the Device takes the form of a mechanical-looking yellow vampire bat named Kivat. He is mostly yellow in color with black highlights with noticeably large eyes. Unlike modern Intelligent Devices, Kivat is sentient and can act on his own accord. For this reason he is sometimes confused as being a Unison Device.
When activated to access the Barrier Jacket, Kivat will first appear to 'bite' the user on an exposed part of their skin (most commonly the hand). This is in fact to verify that the person is an authorized user through sensors in its mouth as part of a security program installed in him. Upon verification, the Kiva belt (referred to at times as the 'Mantle of Kiva') will manifest around the users waist and Kivat will either be manually or placed on the front of the belt on his own with the user announcing 'henshin.' This is a second security protocol for vocal recognition before the Barrier Jacket is activated. The belt itself is crimson in color with a wide band. Grey holders on either side of the belt hold the Fustles used in conjunction with Kivat.
At the time of its conception, Devices were heavily limited by their data storage capacity. This limited not only the functions of the AI but the complexity and number of spells a mage could store in a single Device. Hard drives were getting smaller and increasing in capacity but many wanted to find a way to drastically increase the combat efficiency of mages faster than the evolution of hard drives. It was from this that the Fustle System was created by Otoya Kurenai.
Rather than try to fit more hard drives into a Device, Otoya experimented with the idea of 'external hard drives' for Devices. From there the Fustles were born. Using the Fustle System a mage can store additional spells, weapons, and Barrier Jacket modes on them for use in combat. When needed, a Fustle would be inserted into their Device and the information is 'read' and activated. Since the data was stored on the Fustle, it had to remain connected to the Device while in use. This greatly expanded on the number of spells and Barrier Jacket modes a mage would be able to bring into combat. The only limitations were the data capacity of the Fustles and having to carrying them all into combat.
It is unknown as to who decided to take the initiative as all information regarding the 'Masked Rider Project' was essentially destroyed by the backers for unknown reasons. All those connected with the project were also eliminated to cover their tracks. At the time it was believed only one working version of the Fustle was created which was destroyed along with Otoya.
Many would describe Megumi as your average woman, although a little reclusive. She is not angered easily, however when someone does cross the line they are likely to be on the receiving end of some of her kick boxing moves. The same goes from those who would hurt her friends, though those people tend to end up in much worse shape. Amongst her other hobbies she has a love of classical music, especially violin pieces.
Megumi stands around the average height for women on her world. Lightly tanned, she keeps her hair cut to about shoulder length and does not like having to put it up. Even though she is not in a combat division, she does try to maintain her physical fitness by going to the gym at least twice a week and some exercises at home. In addition she had picked up kick boxing some years after joining the TSAB and remains active in the sport. While not on duty, Megumi prefers to dress for comfort, preferring a darker shade of colors. She does not actively follow the current fashion trends, but does keep an eye on it from time to time.
The Barrier Jacket covers the entire user for full-body protection. It is primarily red and black in color with silver armor around the chest, shoulders, hands, and boots. An additional section of armor is chained around the lower right leg. The helm has two large, stylized visor sections. Like modern Masked Rider Systems, it allows for the display of important tactical and environmental information to be displayed to the wearer. In addition this helm has improved night-vision capabilities, able to travel between illuminated and un-illuminated areas with no ill effects on the wear's vision.
When the weapon Fustles are used, sections of the Barrier Jacket change in appearance:
-Garulu Fustle: Chest, left arm, and helm visor changes from crimson to blue.
-Basshaa Fustle: Chest, right arm, and helm visor changes from crimson to green.
-Dogga Fustle: Both arms and helm visor changes to purple with sturdier armor forming on the shoulders and chest.
Megumi grew up in a single-parent home, her mother having passed away when she was very young in an accident. Her father, Otoya Kurenai, did his best to care for her and her needs on the single job he had in a research company. It wouldn't be until she was abut five years old that their lives began to improve. At the time her father explained to her that he had received a large promotion though that brought with it more work he had to take care of. Rather than working late into the night, he would instead work on the weekends when he had to, spending his evenings with his energetic daughter. Everything was wonderful until that one day in MC 050.
Coming home from school that day, she found her belongings packed in their living room. Her father informed her that she would be spending some time with her Uncle Taiga Nobori due to some project he had to be working on. At the time she was more than happy to spend time with her uncle, not noticing the fear in her father's eyes. That would be the last time she ever saw him alive. Several months would pass before word of her father's death reached her and Taiga. her uncle would volunteer to take custody of the girl so she would not have to move far away from her friends.
A few months later, she awoke one evening to tapping on her bedroom window. Curious, as she was on the second floor of the house, she opened the window and in flew Kivat with a bundle of papers in his feet. It would be a sleepless night for her she learned that Kivat was her father's legacy. the project he was 'promoted' to. Kivat informed her that it was her father's dying wish that she be the bearer of the 'Mantle of Kiva.' The documents brought by Kivat contained information on the 'Masked Rider Project' he had been on as well as Kiva and the Fustle System. For such a young girl it was too much for her to comprehend at the time, but did understand that her father had left her something important to safeguard.
It would be several years before she was old enough to make sense of the documents. At first she tried to keep Kivat a secret form her uncle, but eventually the secret got out. He agreed to help keep the 'Mantle of Kiva' a secret from those who would wish to steal it. At the same time he lent his aid to Megumi to help her become a suitable user for the Device her father entrusted to her. In time she would become proficient in martial arts thanks to her uncle. Over the years she had questioned Kivat on what he knew of the work her father was doing that led to his untimely death. He claimed to know nothing, having been program with her father's dying wish in secret and told to flee upon activation. She had her suspicions that Kivat might know more then he was letting on but the Device never slipped up.
As time passed, Megumi would have to preform maintenance on Kivat to keep him in working order as taking him to a professional wasn't an option. It was probably from this that her fascination with Devices evolved. Soon she was performing upgrades on Kivat as Device technology improved. Upon graduating from high school, she enlisted into the TSAB to work in the Device maintenance department. Her skills got her right in and soon came to work as an assistant to Shario Finieno. Not only was she able to work on Devices, but she was able to learn new skills she would then apply to maintaining her own Device.
-Darkness Moon Breaker: Used in normal form; creates the illusion of a crescent moon. The chains around the right leg are broken and the armor is removed to expose a pair of crimson wings and three green orbs underneath. Leaping into the air, it is followed by a powerful, magically enhanced kick with the now unarmored leg. Upon impact, the orbs can also independently fire magic-formed orbs at the target for additional damage.
-Garulu Howling Slash: Used with the Garulu Saber; creates the illusion of a full moon in the sky. The Saber is enhanced with magic to perform this powerful attack
-Basshaa Aqua Tornado: Used with the Basshaa Magnum; creates the illusion of a mist-covered lake with a half-moon in the sky. A pillar of water surrounds the user and the rate of fire and potency of the magnum is increased greatly
-Dogga Thunder Slap: Used with the Dogga Hammer; creates the illusion of the foggy, moonlit night with lightning and thunder. The 'fist' of the hammer opens and a hidden eye creates a powerful bind on the target. Then a much larger magic-formed version of the hammer forms above the hammer and is swung at the immobilized target with a great impact force.
-Sign of Kiva: Protection-type spell. A powerful barrier forms in the shape of stylized, crimson bat wings. While most efficient in one direction, the 'wings' can also wrap around the user to protect them from all directions.
