Thanks for the spoilers, now I'm just dying for the scanlations.
Spoiler for I really like Nightmare of Nunally:
I really just have to say, NoN >>>> CG anime. It is simply awesome. What got me into CG in the first season was the sheer narrative potential of the characters. Everyone seemed so developed and so interesting, so that I just wanted to see where they went. R2 pretty much utterly ruined that, and in the end the only Lelouch got a decent treatment. In NoN, it's not just Lelouch, but interesting Nunally, interesting Rolo, interesting Charles, interesting Marianne, even awesomely interesting Suzaku and Euphemia--all of them get development and history and depth that does so much more to make them likeable characters (though I liked Charles already in the anime, and obviously Suzaku/somewhat Euphie too). Furthermore, the tightness and cleverness and delivery of the adopted plot elements--Zero, Mao as 'the Refrain', C.C.'s history, Suzaku's father's death, Suzaku's geass potential, Rolo and the Geass Cult, Anya as Marianne's soul carrier, Charles' 'killing God' plan once again--it's just too good. The writing is/seems (for the chapters that haven't been scanlated yet) simply soo much tighter than R2, what with all that wasted shit on lost memories, fake little brothers, China, incompetent Knights of Round, meaningless shipper fanservice, randomly resurrected characters and more. I also have to talk about NoN's art: the anime's animation wasn't exactly consistent, but NoN's art goes beyond just being competent with some awesome character design as well. On the 'original character's' side we've got muscular Zero, female Mao, Lelouch twin Cardinal Rolo, and future stuff like the Knights of Round. On more subtle character makeover stuff, I really love the air of badassery NoN sometimes displays with characters like Suzaku, Euphie, and Lloyd (the Irregulars boss guy's face is also quite amusing). Suzaku/Euphie standing around in badass poses is simply satisfying in comparison to what they got with the anime, but it's really Lloyd's introduction pics which are my favourite: Lloyd's stance and expression sometimes have him coming off as such a superior little bitch that it's just hilarious.
Anyway, by this point it's pretty clear to me that NoN is unquestionably my preferred version of Code Geass' story. It's plain awesome, yeah?
