It's not just that... it the direction of her hand... more specifically her thumb, is to far to be grasping his hairs. So she has to be grasping his skull, with her small little girl hand.
There is no way she could do that without penetrating his skull with her figures because no matter how strong her grip is, he'd still just slide out of her grasp.
