Spoiler for episode 8:
Wohoo, so glad that this series isn't following the friends-turned-enemies plot structure after all, I was going to be rather annoyed if it did that actually.
I was thinking a little about the Fish Girl's story and I was wondering, could Sam killing the girl he loves in order to see the Galaxy be a metaphor for the Brigade breaking the girl's seals and leaving the island? It's a bit literal or you could interpret it as the Head is Sam and the Fish Girl is the girl (who had her seal broken, ie, no more use to the Brigade) and then the story wraps up neatly. I get the feeling that this is the end of one arc in the story, also since I thought I read somewhere that the story would focus on all the shrine maidens, and I guess the new pink haired girl must be a maiden as well and the next few episodes will focus around her.
And I also thought that Fish Girl's outfit was suspiciously similar to the outfit the woman wore in the painting, I'm sure I could get some symbolism out of that if I tried.
