Maybe it is just me, or maybe it is because this manga is so heavily intoxicated with clichés, but this manga is constantly reminding me of Maison Ikkoku. Anyone thought of that already? It is particularly the characters that gives me such vibes.
Spoiler:
Godai - Utsumi
Wimpy, indesicive, ends up in accidental situations, goes on dates with girls they dont love because their indecisiveness doesn’t allow them to reject them. That and being overly conscious of other peoples feelings. Both are average, doesn’t really excel at anything particular. Are prone to erotic delusion with the female lead, set in the future were they are married/ at collage etc. ( Although Godai had these way more often, and they were a bit sillier ). Of course, there is also the dreams. But foremost they are both very well meaning and genuine, and perhaps a bit naive. Also, they are both crybabies…
Kyoko – Yuki
Have built up a shell around their hearts because of their tarnished past with men, though the situations are a bit different, the result of it is similar. Will occasionally put on sad/serious expression when being reminding of their ex/dead husband, much to the male leads dismay and confusion. In fact, both of them revealed their exes names ( Touru/Soichiro ) when they were sleeping with the male lead trying to kiss them!!!
So they have mysterious past, a certain class about them, and becomes jealous whenever one of the male leads other suitors makes a move on him. They both proceed to make sarcastic comments about it, and the male lead will of course not get it, and then the lovers quarrel follows, then the happy resolution. All this yet Yuki/Kyoko never really reveal their true feeling, mostly because they are still unresolved. Oh, and did I mention that Yuki looks almost exactly like Kyoko?
Soichiro - Touru
They are nothing alike, and one is even dead during the whole story, but they are presented similarly. Their facelessness and connection to the female lead give them both a fair amount of mystery. And they are, whether they are present or not, the biggest wall that Godai/Utsumi must overcome in order to get Kyoko/Yuki heart.
Shou – Kozou
I feel they are the same type of character initially, as both are very light hearted and perhaps a bit naïve. But Shou obviously develops a great guilt towards Utsumi once she dumps him over her sempai. Being cheated later on only furthers to make her a even more sad character and the guilt only seem to grow as she falls for Utsumi again. With that said, they have similar roles with them not really being the female lead, and with their presence coming and going, sort of.
Anyone agree? Disagree? Maybe I am thinking too hard. I do realize that most of what I mentioned are regular clichés, but some really just stood out to me as being a bit too similar... is it because both authors are female?
