But that's the appeal though, isn't it? Kaiji is engaging because despite sending himself to the brink of oblivion, he always pulls himself out of it in spots no one else could get out of. Essentially Kaiji is in a battle of man vs. world at its extremes. It's the will of the human spirit and its perseverence against the odds that makes it enthralling along with its black humour.
