I've always figured it would end like this...
Spoiler for Silent_to_Small_Fire: Hidan no Aria version:
Sherlock Holmes opened the steel door with a trembling hand.
Due to intense pain from all over his body he could not stand up, and so had to roll out of the ICBM.
A low hill.
The Vostok that he made his home was no longer in sight. The sound of gunfire that was continuing non-stop in the surroundings can no longer be heard. A silent and still whiteness. It seems he had landed on some unknown island, looking at the paradise-like scene before him, Holmes wordlessly got his answer.
Everything is over.
"Well, I guess this isn't a bad place for retirement..."
What the world will become now, Holmes does not know either. At that point in time, he surely had chosen the best option available. He had entrusted his life's work, to the future generation. The 'Study in Scarlet'--the research on Hidan, has not been completed, how everything would move from this point... these are all unpredictable; no, he could probably do it if he was younger... Or if he still had Watson...
She--no matter what is inside her body, she is just a normal high school student! Loving to play with dolls, loving to eat peach buns, loving to watch the TV and laugh stupidly...she's just a normal high school student! The one who doesn't know anything at all, is you, Sherlock!
Those last words are still reverberating in his ears.
I have no interest in that kind of bloody world! Malice and compassion have nothing to do with me!
"But I guess it's out of my hands already." The old man that was the greatest detective in the world smiled. "Sorry to cut and run half way... What I'm saying is... I'm leaving the rest up to you two..."
He would die here this he had already understood, but he would go knowing that everything would work out.
With those lat thoughts, Sherlock Holmes stood up from the sandy beach.
At that time-
Don!!
Suddenly, Sherlock Holmes’ right arm has been cut off from the shoulder.
This is a strike which its activation or signs of its presence could not be felt.... Impossible, everything in this physical world would give off tell tale signs of it's presences- sight, smell, sound, electrostatic charge, heat, wind pressure, magnetic field, light and even if it's a slight shift in gravity... All these would have been deduced by Sherlock and allow him to predict any sudden attacks.
Yet the facts were infallible; an attack which came from behind him undetected unmercifully cut apart his body. Sherlock, who have lost it, screamed on the sand that’s splattered with blood.
Covering the wound with one hand, the detective turned around.
A peculiar man is standing there.
Long silver hair that reached the waist. An upright expression that shows no emotion. Wearing only a surgical gown, even in this harsh coldness. An aura which involves all male and female, adult and child, saints and criminals onto oneself.
He knows.
"...You?"
Sherlock Holmes knows this person.
He had once chased him all over the world.
“True enough, coming out once in awhile to see things with my own eyes will give me a more accurate understanding. Using the energy that’s created through machines from my life force, it is harder to be picked up by others. Of course, with the conditions as they are now, such precautions seems unnecessary.”
“So it is you… But… this theory has contradictions. It can’t explain how you are here!”
“This shouldn't be something strange.”
The man answered as if this is only natural,
“There was once a woman who could do the task of being the window connecting to the 'secret chief’ and helped establishing the ‘Golden’ cabal. Anna Sprengel in the end became a existence that is unfathomable… I too, have the function of being the ‘window’ that connects with Aiwass, one of those among the secret chiefs. Truth be told, that has the broad, overly rigid mission of ‘giving up the approval to establish magic cabals of the whole world’ being burdened upon such people. Then again, there is no necessity in giving up such approvals, but it has the same nature as the existence which Anna has comprehended."
The man almost looked disappointed that he even needed to tell Sherlock all this.
"...With that, even if the territory of 0 and 1 has been surpassed it should not be strange.”
In other words, a single individual that can exists at many places at once at the same time. This is a phenomenon that breaks the basic concept of counting with numbers, and as such this is the territory of the apex. Originally when the ‘Tree of Life’ explained this world in terms of numbers and words it also pointed out a level where ‘it cannot be described by words’.
All in all, this man was not in the same dimension; he exist in a place even higher than that.
Sherlock Holmes begins to understand.
"The nature of that attack just now..."
"Hmm? It should be easy for you to understand right? Humans are restricted by their 5 or 6 senses, that in turn are bound within the four dimensions of space and time. Therefore, if an unexplainable vector came from somewhere like say the 11th dimension, there would be no way for you to deduce it using only your senses right?"
Sherlock always had this impression of him... Whether it's the him that's he had chased 50 years ago, or the him standing in front... This man was a complete monster.
"Man Beyond Space and Time", that was what people had once referred to Sherlock himself- What a joke, no matter how powerful he was, Sherlock was still in the realm of the countable world.
“… Why…?”
"Hmm?"
"Why didn't my plan succeed? I had deduced everything, Aria was to be my successor... Where was I mistaken?"
“Rather than the facts that you've based your plan upon, or the method by which you've carried out your plans, it's just the basic problem of quantity."
The man said those words in a bored tone.
"You've relied too much on one person, your plan revolves only on one person to play the role you needed them to play. Actually, I feel you have done well having managed to reach where you had. But if you wanted to walk down that path, you should have realized that everything can be replaced- there should always be a spare part with many plans in place at the same time. Even if the most promising plan doesn’t work you can immediately switch to another plan. Then when the time is right, go back to the original plan. Just like a spider web, no matter which path you choose sooner or later you will end up back on the same path... Ah, so creatures like me will still feel excited once every month..."
Hearing those words, Sherlock suspected that in the eyes of this man, even the planet should only be a resource for use and discarding.
That was the scope of the difference between the two men.
The greatest detective didn’t speak needlessly.
Thinking up to that point, he let go of the left arm that was stopping the blood from coming out of the wound. He reached and pulled out his gun.
Sherlock Holmes no longer has the Hidan; without it there was no chance he could win, but even though this is no longer something he can control, he can still fight.... And so he will fight.
"I think it’s useless.”
The man didn’t even bother making a stance. He moved his fingers, and slowly grabbed something that cannot be seen. Like a something from a mime’s movements, Sherlock felt something strange. Like a staff that doesn’t exist slowly being stretched out. No, more correctly speaking it’s something that does not exist in reality. With other stimulus like the aura and atmosphere that is not categorised, it gave the illusion of a silver staff.
He had seen it before.
The Blasting Rod.
This staff has a legend. An ancient legend that it obeyed the magician, who is called the most evil, out of pure respect.
“Useless or not, that’s not the problem... This is something i have to do.”
"...I see."
And that was it.
There was no sound in his attack, there was no flash of light, no sudden heat, no movement in wind direction or air pressure.
All of those were wasted energy and completely unnecessary.
With the whole concentration of his attack being brought to bear, a large portion of the island was silently blow off the face of the planet in an instant.
"Trying to change the world with your way of thinking... Relying on only one key piece... That itself is your failure."
