Ok, well, I had to sign up just to get this off my chest.
Just watched episode one and two back to back, and I gotta say, I'm loving it; ZnT has always been a favorite of mine. The music, the characters, the setting, the atmosphere and *especially* (this is important) Saito's Gandalfr powers. Instantly being able to utilize any weapon as a master just from touching it? Wow, that's awesome. He used it to full effect in many battles throughout the seasons, and it always felt like he was fighting at his full strength.
What about now? With so much growth throughout the three seasons, Saito must be at a level by now where only a very select few in the entire world would be able fight him on an even footing right? I mean, they certainly made it feel that way.
Spoiler for Episode 1 and 2 battle scenes:
Well, in the first episode, he hears Louise scream for help, and upon arriving he looks at Louise and, due to her loose, torn clothes, immediately thinks she was raped or molested by the two thieves that broke in. The Saito in season 2 would have INSTANTLY owned those two thieves, especially if he was angry. However, HE ACTUALLY LOST!! AGAINST ONE SINGLE MAGE!! (Louise has to save him) He stood up against an army of 10,000, which included warriors, mages and huge, strong monsters in order to buy time for his friends to evacuate. AND ONE LITTLE THIEF BEATS HIM!?!? NO.
I thought, ok, well, that's messed up, but let me put that to the side and next time he gets into a fight, I'm sure he won't disappoint me. I was SO WRONG.
Episode 2, Louise, of course, is tricked and when Saito finds out, he goes to rescue her before anything happens to her. Well, he meets the second thief, the one that escapes in the first episode. This thief doesn't just hold his own against Saito, he seems to be BEATING SAITO. Apparently, these guys COMPLETELY MASTERED the art of swordfighting to the level of a Gandalfr. What's the point of Gandalfr if random thieves are JUST AS GOOD OR BETTER than Gandalfr? It really looks like if that fight lasted longer, Saito, again, would have LOST.
Then, there's the fact that after Louise is captured, the thief and his parter LEAVE. Ok, Saito can jump around higher and farther than anyone else, but what does he do when the thieves jump on top of a building while he's standing in the street? He looks up and acts as if they were on the moon. Man, if only Saito had some kind of power; I dunno, maybe if he was GANDALFR.
It's really dumb. These little nobody thieves we're just now seeing for the first time ARE BEATING SAITO. It DUMBFOUNDS ME. Saito should be FURIOUS that they captured Louise. These two thieves are the only link he has to Louise's immediate whereabouts, and HE LETS THEM GET AWAY!!?!?!? HOLY CRAP WHAT DID I JUST WATCH??? He literally just stands there as they jump away, like he has no way of following them, since we all know Saito is so weak and puny. Then, after the thieves leave, he runs around like an idiot looking for Louise, when THE ONLY TWO PEOPLE WHO COULD HAVE GIVEN HIM THE INFORMATION TO FIND HER JUST LEFT!!
Sorry for the long rant, but I really don't understand what they did to Saito. SAITO WTF HAPPENED TO YOU!?!? You used to own everyone, now you look like a child with a stick fighting a master samurai.
