The first and only real clues we heard about the soul king is that the king is a "thing" and serves as a necessary "lynchpin" of sorts. Assuming this is the case, it puts some much needed perspective on Aizen's old statements regarding heaven's vacant throne.
So I hope Kubo can do without drawing any connections between Ichigo and this king (whatever "it" may be). IMO, the connection doesn't seem necessary anymore towards explaining his power and unrivaled potential.
