I wouldn't call him stupid just a product of the settings environment. Really he is just the face of the average coure 1 student and pretty much it seems all his beefs with Tatsuya are due to misunderstandings that Tatsuya almost seems to encourage (using 2 CAD's to look cool) along with a bit of Jealousy (Miyuki and later all the girls form the school competition seeming to hang all over him).
