I don't think there's a lack of hype. I think it's just that the show doesn't have any super big names in the main cast, and people don't know much about it yet. The general impression of people who do follow it are pretty positive, and there's a fair amount of interest in Japan.
The show had a pre-screening event last night where they screened the first 4 episodes, and the impressions seem pretty good too. As expected the show is a mix of character comedy with a team of "losers" trying to work together and mostly failing, along with more "serious" mecha action scenes which look very cool with tons of motion and camerawork. Viewers said the comedy worked pretty well and it was funny.
I'm certainly looking forward to this the most out of the 3 mecha shows, but I hope all 3 of them are good in their own way!
