For those wondering, Gohan78 is right:
Spoiler for What the anime cut out from the VN:
They really did just cut out weeks from the VN. Like he said, they went to her grandfather's house and lived there together for weeks.
Two things to note however:
- While Riki worked his butt off to support and take care of Rin...she did nearly nothing the whole time. Riki got himself a job farming (until he was fired as the lady employing him worried about his well being due to narcolepsy) and then went out fishing to feed everyone (which was hard since sometimes he wasn't even able to catch anything) since Riki's guardian blocked his bank account.
Rin on the other hand spent the day doing nothing and gathering cats, which in turn meant that every time Riki came back he'd have even more mouths to feed (a point he made in the VN). Rin did do her laundry but it was even stated that she only did it because it would be embarrassing for Riki to wash her underwear.
All in all, while the whole route was actually kind of sweet in some way, with them living together AND it did show how strong Riki had become, since he was able to last so long without money........this route also showed how useless and protected Rin was. It always bugged me that while Riki was killing himself working every day, she just stayed in playing with more and more cats and Riki really didn't do much about it, he just accepted it. Rin's route showed very well just how weak Rin is and how lost she'd be on her own.
- The end of the episode rushed a very important part, the very end of Rin's route.
It showed the people knocking on their door and calling out but it didn't show what happened next very well. The lights went out, it was dark and impossible to see anything clearly, men started rushing the house and grabbing the two, Riki lost his grasp on Rin and didn't know where she was...
Basically, it was a super desperate and dark scene, the screen went all black and all you could hear was the voices. This is a very important scene and I feel they rushed this part a little too much.
