Just as I hoped. I've read part of the manga, and it needed something. It looks to me as if Shinbou may be in the process of giving it just that something. Wonderful first episode, pure Shinbou goodness, with its great visual rhythms and starry art. And the story is being well told, with Shinbou's fancy footwork putting it in just the right register, so far.
Touyama Nao is doing a great job of yet another type of character (Chitoge). Uchiyama Kouki is doing well (some reminders of Kamiya Hiroshi?), and Kana-chan is meltingly good as usual (as Onodera).
EDIT: 2channel seems generally positive, along with some anti-Shaft comments. Posts are flying in. A couple of comments I found interesting: "The content is nothing. Without the direction, this would be awful." "It's not so much the story as the tempo and direction that leave an impression." "Another work sacrificed to Shaft."
