I always wondered what happens when all 10 are taken up. Is 10 going to the maximum number of spirits that will appear or is the author going to fill the names for new spirits with "hundred" or "thousand". I think numerals like 11, 12 or 13 etc would take up two word characters for the name (as is the case for Chinese, but I dunno if it's the same for Japanese), and would seem less elegant.
