I think it's because she is an adult. When one reaches adulthood the brain stops growing/is fully developed and it can become harder to take in new and more complex information. As a child the brain hasn't/isn't fully developed so it is possible to implant more knowledge. This is why it is easier to learn a second language as a kid than as an adult.
