After reading
this interview with Oda and Kishimoto it gave me the impression that the tree and fruit that Kaguya ate was also an homage to One Piece's Devil Fruits. It clearly has Christian implications but I think it's also a nod to Oda as well. I knew that they knew each other, but I didn't realize how much they cared about each others' careers until I read this.
