BACKGROUND
In 18th century, Grandeur Dynasty was one of the powerful families whose influence stretched across Germany. The Grandeurs had full control over socioeconomic aspects and were often at odds with the Kaisers. Nevertheless, they had essential role in keeping Europe’s political stability, as proven during the rise of Napoleon Bonaparte where they secretly supplied logistic means to rebels across the continent. Their function waned after the Battle of Waterloo and by the end of 19th century Grandeur Dynasty was largely forgotten.
To continue the legacy of the dynasty, some of the Grandeurs went underground to avoid authorities. They conducted various activities that involved research on alchemy, one of the controversial subjects, and learned the existence of a magic system. Despite the high potency, it was deemed unnecessary in their point of view to pursue such exotic knowledge and concentrated their study on Earthly subjects instead.
During World War Two, German troopers marched across Austria-Hungary border and came across a village. They ransacked the village, killed every people they found and enslaved every woman they got. They even burnt down a chapel and left the entire area in ruins. It seemed their atrocity was unstoppable until a boy came out of the inferno unharmed. Stating that the soldiers had angered the God, he summoned golden fire from his hand and obliterated the entire battalion. The surviving villagers thanked him for saving them but their fate was forever sealed as the boy “freed all souls from agonizing pain.”
Several years later, the 19-year-old Leopold Grandeur began an extensive research on his dynasty’s paper works and found a document with the name “Mid-Childa” inside a vault in the underground chamber his grandfather’s mansion. It was found along with a rosary with Latin inscription that read “one does not simply walk into the chamber of purification.” He examined the document and learned that it referred to the magic system that was previously discovered before World War One but later abandoned. He also learned that the Mid-Childan magic system may have connection with his ability to control fire as he recalled seeing circular symbol with intricate inscriptions similar to the one he found in the document. He also learnt that the rosary could be used to harness and enhance his magical power to certain extents.
After trials and errors, Leopold finally got hold of his magical power. Having perfected the summoning technique, all he saw from his newfound ability was self-confidence and means of protection. However after reading news of various nuclear tests conducted around the world, wars that ravaged the Middle-East and battles for independence in South-East Asia, Leopold felt an unstoppable responsibility to “protect the world from destruction and cleanse all forms of impurity.” He decided to make use of his ability and proceeded with a mission “to convey God’s Words.”
As time passed by, Leopold discovered that conveying the words of God was not enough. He felt he must perform God’s words regardless of the consequences he may face. Unknown to him, his magic gradually became corrupted by the overwhelming desire. It took years for him to realize the fact but it would be too late to turn back as he was completely immersed in his power. It was an irony, considering his ambition ti purify the world yet at the same time forgetting to cleanse his soul firsthand.
POWER
Leopold Grandeur is classified as an S-ranked fire mage. His skill reaches the level he simply needs to snap his fingers in order to execute magic spells. Because he doesn’t have a position in TSAB (and he never intends to join an organization anyway) he is treated as a “highly dangerous subject of investigation.”
His combat style depends on trickery and deception, where he first lures his opponent into believing that he won’t perform any move. Only after his opponent falls into his trap will he unleash his attacks. He also uses long-range attacks and will occasionally engage in melee combats whenever necessary.
Leopold’s Intelligent Device, Defaeco Extraho (Purifying Dragon in Latin) has male voice and addresses him as “sir”. It speaks British-accented English despite its Latin name.
- Dico Meus Nomen (Call My Name): Leopold uses this chant to unlock Defaeco Extraho, and usually his Barrier Jacket is unlocked as well. The transformation is instantaneous, and doesn’t require long phrases.
FORMS- Signum (Sealed): Defaeco Extraho takes form of a rosary.
- Ressurectio (Awaken): the most frequently used form, Leopold gains access to his spells as well as enhancing the Device’s melee capability.
- Sanctus Flamma (Holy Flame): the most powerful form, Sanctus Flamma is incredibly stable and doesn’t break down in prolonged battle.
DEFENSIVE ABILITIES- Barrier Jacket: Leopold’s suit is a golden yellow priest uniform with cape and rosary hanging under its collar. It is not just flashy costume but also refers to an invisible defensive field generated by the costume, reducing or eliminating any serious injury from events such as an impact with a building.
- Bastion: Leopold’s first and most frequently used spell. It protects its caster from attacks coming from all directions.
- Rotundus Contego (Round Shield): a powerful shield able to absorb physical or magical attacks. It defends its caster from one direction only, however.
- Nixor Redimio (Struggle Bind): Leopold uses this spell to prevent a target from moving. The amount of time required to activate this spell depends on the complexity of target.
- Redimio Effrego (Bind Break): Leopold attempts to deactivate a binding or imprisoning spell. The amount of time required to deactivate depends on the complexity of the target magic.
- Incendia Parietis (Fire Wall): a powerful version of Round Shield. This time, instead of the usual circular magical symbol, Leopold summons an entire wall of flame that surrounds him.
- Vis Agri (Force Field): functions in the similar way as a barrier, Leopold summons a ‘force field’ to surround target or battlefield area. This is usually done to enclose his appearance.
OFFENSIVE ABILITIES- Ustulo Culmen (Scorching Pillar): Leopold flips his pointer and middle fingers and summons a tiny fire vortex that appears from the ground. Leopold can control where it appears and can also delays its appearance.
- Solor Flare (Solar Flare): an average area-of-affect attack.
- Igneus Offensus (Burning Collision): Leopold charges at target and suddenly slices through it, leaving the target stunned for indefinite amount of time. Then he appears behind the target, says something before snaps his fingers, leaving the target engulfed in explosion.
- Deceptio (Deception): Leopold does the usual Burning Collision tackle but doesn’t actually perform the attack; he just stops next to target, often catching it by surprise. Leopold may then proceed with the actual attack or performing other abilities.
- Incendia Tempestas (Firestorm): more powerful than Solar Flare. Leopold lifts his hand and brings it down while saying “let the holy fire purify your soul.” Then pillars of fire appear from above and strike down onto unsuspecting target.
- Uracinus Ratio (Heavenly Judgment): the most powerful fire-based attack, it is actually a variation of Firestorm where instead of the “usual” storm Leopold will bring in a burning asteroid from the sky, sending it to target area.
