Part II Of Glock's Pro, Epilogue is up. I admit, this part somewhat drones on a bit, since it turned out to be more Warhammer 40K, and most of the info on the Necrons described can already be read at other sources, like Wiki. It may even seem OT, but since I'm writing the profile piecemeal, take it as a smaller part of a whole, rather than a piece in itself. Still, I felt I had to do it for consistency's sake, and it's not all exposition. ^^
Oh what the hell...
Spoiler for length:
*continue audio log 359*
“Glock: Moving on… After you were knocked back by the Type 4 I saw them hover over me, along with the Type 0. The Type 4 spoke, as if relaying the message of its leader to me.
Kay: It mentioned that you had the mark of the Traitor…
Glock: That. Sofia. The green sigil on her is a small modification of the undead’s own emblem.
Kay: I knew something was different about that tablet and that sigil. I would later hear them say more about this Traitor… how he was a favored one of their Gods, and how he betrayed them. And their stupid crap about life not worth living…
Glock: I heard. But somehow I understood their message, as if I had been the Traitor.
Kay: What do you mean by that?
Glock: Throughout that time, I kept hearing a voice in my head, a soft murmuring indescribable in words. It seems to be able to communicate its intent using no spoken language, and yet still be clearly understood. And he related to me his memories of the past. Although fuzzy I was able to… remember them, like they were my own memories, like I had once lived through them myself. His account helped me understand who and what these undead are. Unfortunately his own memories had broken down, having supposedly existed for aeons, so I can only tell you the general details.
Kay: What a shame. I’m listening though, as it sounds like a pretty interesting story.
Glock: Millions of years ago, these undead were once a race known as the Necrontyr, one of the first sentient beings to develop. They lived on a planet that had been ravaged by the deadly radiation of its star, to their detriment. Their mortality rate was appallingly high, and their expected lifespans no more than a couple of decades at most. But they were technologically gifted, and they went to great lengths to invent technologies that would extend their lifespans, including the living metal the undead are made of, Necrodermis. But soon they lost all hope. Even when they finally developed interstellar travel, and the ability to leave behind their homeworld, they were already a bitter and unforgiving people.
Kay: They must’ve wished for death that badly…
Glock: After millennia of suffering, they encountered a race known by most others at that time as “The Old Ones”, benevolent beings who possessed long lives and incredible powers, and were even older than the Necrontyr. The Necrontyr, who had suffered mortality for most of their history, grew contemptuous and jealous of these Old Ones, and they waged a fruitless war against the more advanced race. The Necrontyr, who were desperate to defeat the Old Ones, discovered a non-corporeal being that was residing in their home star, feeding of its energy. It would be only one of several later discovered, and they would be collectively called by the Necrontyr as the C’tan… The Star Gods.
Kay: Those were the Star Gods the Type 4 mentioned… Don’t tell me…
Glock: That’s right. They are the ones responsible for the Necrontyr’s fate. But the Necrontyr had a hand, because despite the knowledge that these beings were malevolent, they still summoned the C’tan to their world, venerating them as gods, pledging servitude to them, and offering them physical bodies to occupy. Soon, the Necrontyr were able to persuade their new Gods to help them destroy the Old Ones. The Gods granted the Necrontyr immortality using their Necrodermis technology, and promised victory over the old ones.
But all that was a deception by the Gods. The Necrontyr would gain immortality at the price of their minds; the process of implanting their souls stripped all higher thinking, becoming mindless slaves for the C’tan. The Star Gods had no intention of helping the Necrontyr. They were tools in the C’tan’s need to feed on the life energy of other beings, especially the Old Ones. Reborn as undead killing machines the Necrontyr, following their God’s bidding, began a massive campaign of death to satisfy their masters.
Kay: A great food hunt, to sacrifice offerings to their gods… For some reason, I can’t seem to bring myself to think that, not after hearing them lament about the “pain of living”. And while you say these machines are mindless, the destroyer and the Type-4’s seem to have traces of intelligence.
Glock: The Traitor also explained that part to me. Not all the Necrontyr became mindless following their transformations. Some of them, especially the first ones who willingly gave themselves to the C’tan, retained some of their intelligence and memories. Most of them became Type-0’s, or the destroyers as you called them, although I heard the Traitor refer to them as a “Lord”.
Kay: I guess that fits it better, with the Type-0’s speeches in mind. The Type-4’s would be similar correct?
Glock: Yes… and no. Many of the Type-4’s are not Necrontyr.
Kay: … I don’t understand. What are you saying here?
Glock: Many of the Type-4’s are recent in origin. Most of them are humans, who have been converted into undead.
Kay: You got to be kidding…
Glock: Obviously I’m not. I nearly became one of them remember?
*metallic sounds*
Kay: Your metallic arm. It’s the first time I’ve really seen it.
Glock: It got stripped of its artificial skin when your Disorient Blast hit my arm. The shockwave you created was that powerful.
Kay: I… I want to apologize for that. I could’ve killed you with my own recklessness.
Glock: Well you didn’t, and I don’t think anyone could’ve avoided doing the same, given how tense the situation was already. You tell me to see the past better, give it the respect it deserves. I tell you to stop brooding on it too much. I’m alive, and that’s all that matters to me NOW, and for the foreseeable future.
Kay: I guess.
Glock: We’re even then.
Kay: Deal, but only for now.
Let me get this straight though… The Traitor was giving you a juicy history lesson while I was risking my ass for you out there?
Glock: It’s not like wanted to though. I couldn’t bear to watch you knocked down again and again like that, trying to take on a squad of Type-4’s, a Lord, and an army of Type-1’s by yourself. But I had no control over my body at that moment. And he would not let me.
Kay: I could understand that somehow. But you… I mean, the Traitor used your body to catch Galatea’s shockwave attack. Why’d he intervene then, and not earlier?
Glock: I’m afraid that’ll be my fault. He had offered to help me against his sworn enemy. He would give me the power to match the undead in combat. But I couldn’t accept his condition.
I couldn’t give him my soul.
------
I couldn’t.
I was not pleased at what he was asking. Because he could not use our standard magic techniques, he would have to override my soul with his to move my body. I would be displaced… hollow. At the mercy of this will.
I couldn’t do that.
Kay: Glock… please…
Glock: It felt just like that time, when I was almost robbed of my humanity. I felt blank... empty. I couldn’t think. I still did not trust him on his bargain. If what he showed me was true, what would stop him from using me to his own advantage? He could consume me, and leave me as a shell of my former self? For all I knew, he could disregard you, at worse he could turn on you. I didn’t want to risk that. I couldn’t…
*slap*
Kay: Please Glock… stop this. Stop this right now. I will not watch you…
I will not watch you do this to yourself. I… will not bear it if you continue this. Only seconds ago you told me to not brood over the past. I’m not… I’m not blaming you damnit. I trust in your decision, I trust in your judgment. You don’t need to explain yourself to me. I understand that you were scared, that you feared for your sanity. But please don’t fucking beat yourself up over this, just because you think its your fault! If you do this again I’m gonna hate you for it understand?!
Where’s the Glock I knew who sucked up all the pain, all the hurt, and all the agony that is thrown at him? Where is the person who lived in the present and looks to the future? Who once never regrets anything?
I won’t allow it.
It’s breaking…”
Kay: …my heart.
*Audio log still playing, only silence is heard*
Asuka: If you think a profile’s bad, what about hearing herself going e…
Shinji: Asuka, please.
Rey: I may have been mistaken in playing this file as part of the…
Kay: No, it’s alright. Asuka’s right. When it comes to this, I am somewhat more sensitive than I should be. But it’s nice hearing that particular moment again. Don’t mind me Rey. Continue on.
Rey: I’ll try.
*Audio log silence ends*
“Glock: Thanks Kay.
Kay: Fool, what are you thanking me for?
Glock: Your willingess to trust me, and to be trusted in return. Which is why I was able to lend my soul to the Traitor.
Kay: What… what are you saying?
Glock: You told me to trust you. As I watched you fight I remembered what you said to me. That you would be the Beacon for my soul, that you’ll guide me back, no matter how hard the Traitor tried. Which is why I lent my soul to him, knowing that you’ll keep me as myself somehow. As long as I entrusted my soul to you, It’d work out in the end.
Kay: Uhm…
Erh…
Thanks…
You’re not getting any brownie points for that, especially after going all emo on me, which I didn’t know you could do! But I’m glad to hear I was of use afterall.
Glock: Yes sir.
Kay: … kono baka…
With what you just said… I’m assuming you were able to override the Traitor’s control?
Glock: Only once. That was when I the Lord unleashed his roar…
You alright?! Kay?! What’s wrong?!
Kay: No…. please… don’t remind me… please… please…
Glock: Kay, hang in there!
Kay: NO!!!!
*thrashing sounds, glass breaking, metal clanging*
Kay: MAKE IT STOP! PLEASE!!! MAKE THEM STOP!!!
Glock: Get a hold of yourself!! KAY!
Sofia: “Chain Bind”
*sound of chains dangling, a body hitting the ground*
Sofia: “Chain Bind Release”
*heavy breathing*
Kay: Please…
Glock: It’s alright Kay, I’ll make them stop. As long as I’m here, I’ll make them stop…
Kay: *voice cracking* Please… make them stop… make it stop…”
Kay: … make it stop…
*sobs can be heard from the Audio log*
Shinji: You’re shaking Kay...
Kay: It feels so cold now… *lone tear falls*
Asuka: It.. it feels so cold here…"
-------------------
*audio log continues to play*
*several moments of choking, then silence*
"Glock: You alright now?
Kay: *sniffles, muffled cracked voice* Not yet… because there’s… there’s one more thing I’d like to clear up with you…
Glock: What is it?
Kay: I know… I know I was scared… and I know that I’d go insane if I…
Glock: Don’t go there. Don’t think about THAT. Just tell me.
Kay: Alright then. *sniff* I don’t want you pulling that stupid stunt you did back there, acting like a martyr and sacrificing your life for my sake. It’s noble of you and… and I thank you for that.
But please… I’d rather have you living as a boring Armed Clerk who stands there like a log watching my every move in silence than die as my savior. I don’t want anybody paying for my life with their own… you got that?
Glock: I don’t think it’ll be that simply Kay…
Kay: I know it’s not. And I’m not telling you to be a coward and put your life above all others.
But please… you say you want to save as many lives as you want, but I don’t think that’s the job of a dead guy. Saving people and getting yourself killed are not mutually inclusive concepts, and I don’t want you getting killed just because you thought that getting yourself… stabbed…
…Is the only to save someone.
Glock: Kay I…
Kay: I almost lost it again when I saw that sickening gash on your back. I…
I thought you were gone for sure…
I’ve dealt with death a lot in my line of work… I’ve seen death, and I’ve lived death… but I don’t like seeing anybody killed right in front of me like that!
Better be thankful that The Traitor healed that wound of… of
*Silence. A barely audible sigh*
Glock: Once again, I’m sorry…
Kay: I’ll believe you only if you didn’t do it again.
Glock: I never promise anything… but I’ll make an exception in this case. For your sake.
Kay: Not just for mine… but for yours as well. I hope you remember that.
Glock: Coming from you, I don’t think I’ll forget.
*silence*
Kay: …
I hope that wasn’t meant to be funny in any way because I don’t feel like it right now.
Glock: Don’t worry, I’m not up to cracking jokes either.
*sigh*
I think we should get you back to your bed to rest… you’re making yourself too comfortable on my chest.
Kay: Oh… alright… sorry…. Eheh… “
Asuka: In truth, you liked that didn’t you?
Kay: Erh…
Shinji: I don’t think you need to point out the obvious.
Kay: Not you too Shinji...
Rey: I concur.
Kay: *sigh* You three better be grateful that I don’t feel like myself today, after all that I’ve just been through…
Asuka: I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone Kay like this before… hell, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone this emo before…
Shinji: Asides from yourself.
Asuka: Of cours…
LOGI-
:So… Glock wasn’t just an “old contact” afterall.
Shinji: That voice…
Rey: Oh no…
Asuka: Holy…
Kay: Kisama...
:It’s been a long time… Oba-san.
Kay: GALATEA!!!!! CARTRIDGE LOAD!!!!
Asuka: JAWOL!!!! FUEGO!!!!
Final part of the Epilogue will deal with the Necron connection to Alhazred, The Traitor and hopefully wrap up this part of Glock's "profile" With the backstory cleared, I can hopefully get to the next section: Glock's Spells and Abilities
Edit: Added massive character scene at the end And another
