What struck me as especially perplexing was his belief that somehow no one would notice that the bank was fictional. I mean, it's one thing to walk down a street carrying a fake Gucci bag. Journalists and the police aren't really going to start accosting young ladies on Shanghai street corners and checking the legitimacy of their fashion accessories. But to believe somehow that you could just invent a US bank out of whole cloth and expect no one would attempt to verify its existence boggles the mind.
