The guy Kazuma and Ayano are going to fight is not a Contractor. Theoretically there can only be at most 4 Contractors at a given time (1 for each of the elements of fire, wind, water and earth). But it's been stressed thus far that Kazuma is the only one. I think the novels haven't gone far enough to even talk about whether there are more of them or not at this point in time.

Well, I've watched episode 3 and as Deathkillz said mainly some talk with a cliffhanger at the end. What got my attention in this episode are 2 things, first of all

it seems that enemy wind guy killed that girl Kazuma couldn't protect back then, but it's still too early to say. Another things to mention is how in next week's preview we see Kazuma regain his original blue eye color (they are red now due to the contract with the wind spirit I think) thus it could mean his contract gets broken. Now for the real spoiler: It seems Ren critically hurts Ayano next episode as he's brainwashed/being controlled, but she'll survive it anyways. We also see some dark creature with red-colored eyes and smoke coming out of his mouth battling with Ayano at this points of upcoming episode (probably last part) and it seemingly all ends with a kiss between Kazuma and Ayano

Actually according to the various sites and the official site, the eyes of Kazuma turning blue is a symbol of when he is actually using his power as a Contractor. Supposedly a Contractor can only channel the powers from the Element Lord for a short period of time because it puts enormous strains on the Contractor. So when Kazuma beaten his father, he was only using his own strength, that's supposedly how strong he is. Also Kazuma is supposedly very skilled at both martial arts as well as other forms of magic, it's just that he somehow cannot wield fire, thus making him a "failure" as a member of the Kannagi Clan.....
