Gai before this episode: kinda jerky, but he's a good leader and very good planner, and is able to figure out how to manipulate Shu into doing his bidding.
Gai this episode: all of a sudden, entirely incompetent at managing Shu.
So aside from whether you find Shu and/or Gai/FP annoying, it's a weirdly inconsistent shift in how Gai/FP is portrayed, and it doesn't seem like the writers realized this.
