I'm pretty sure she made it clear that what she was doing was no more than making the aura around less bad. I doubt it's an actual cloud of death.
Apollo makes it sound like she had the power to break the spell all along but she just chose to remain in her world to pray. After three days she might just come out by herself. What this means is that there no point in finding Mercury other than for the battle afterwards since Apollo doesn't seem to want her sisters to force her awake.
Well I guess it is an interesting turn of event in that Apollo didn't want to come out anyways.
