Actually, there are arenas, but there is just less need to spend hours on a single map using the arena and hoping you won't die, because of the handy free map. Though I still tend to use the arena early on to earn money... Even though the Hard arenas in Sacred Stones are considerably difficult... In FE7, you could just use Ninian...
